Hi there,

Just wondering if anybody could tell me what to do to have a PS2 repaired, the laser is no longer reading the discs properly and stays on the main menu screen even after the game has been in for several minutes...

Hoping someone could recommend a decent business who can repair playstation 2's and are cost efficient, or whether I can fix the problem myself with some sort of cleaning method?

Thanks for the help.

Just service your PS2 at Sony. If it is modded, they will remove the chip though.

check the trading post. Anybody who is advertising the installation of modchips there's a good chance they'll install a replacement laser cartridge for you.

If it still has warrenty... yes you can send it off and wait for weeks for it to get back to you... if it isn't I would suggest buying another PS2... replacing a laser is very costly.

If you want to... try this:

I had a problem during a certain section of San Andreas... i thought my PS2 was cactus. It started to make a horrid sound when trying to read from any disc.

After opening it up (which voids warrenty if you still have it) cleaning it out with a can of compressed air.... applying some WD40 to the rails that the lens use and doing what was suggested on the TechTV site... i've got it all working perfectly again.

Just have to catch up on a few lost weeks of San Andeas....

(PS: if you can install RAM into a computer you can do the above easily)
