Crystal modchip for PS2?

Just got myself a new slim line ps2... Contacted a guy i know who does mods and he said they do they 'crystal chip'... Can anyone recommend this or provide me with any info.. positive/negative feedback..

My Slimline PS2 didnt last 3 weeks with a Crystal Chip installed. The Fact is no matter what chip you choose chipping the V12's at the moment is a big risk. Even the Dead beef fix doesnt work 100% of the time.

OH damn, that just blows.. hmm only bought it 2 days ago from kmart, might see if i can swap it for a 'normal' ps2.

my ps2slim is still working after a week, but as motivation said it's very risky and theres a high chance of failure. check out the neo-fix xiii, it's a small circuit that supposedly prevents the failure of the ps2slim after the install of a chip, it's the latest and best prevention method. personally i would prefer the dms4 lite/pro (thats what i have in mine) because dms have been around for a while so you can be guaranteed good support and regular firmware upgrades (the crystal and dms4 come with legal bios's so they must be flashed to boot dvr etc). if the installer can locate and install a neo-fix iii i would go with it, otherwise they and locate an older version ps2

Ive contacted the 3 'main' stores that do mods in Perth.. They all implement the matrix fix when installing chips in the V12's..

These are the prices i got back..

DMS4 in V12 with official matrix fix $180
DMS4 in older ps2 $90

Magic KX plus in V12 $180
DMS4 in V12 $240
Magic KX in older ps2 $100
Duo 2 in older ps2 $120...


Ive got the slimline, but a mate of mine has an older ps2 and is willing to swap with me.. is over a year old though..

What you guys think? IM thinking get the older ps2 as they all report it is still more risky to chip the V12's... Which chip would u recommend in the older version ps2?

i would go with the dms4 becuase it auto boots differnet modes, dvd,ps2,ps1 and it's flash upgradeable.
