Hi All,

Can anyone comment on the quality of the current line up of Samsung 42 inch
SD plasma screens? Reason being that I can get one fairly cheaply, but don't
want to waste the money if it's not up to par.

I've seen old newsgroup messages bagging them, but was wondering if anyone
has any first hand experience with the current models, and if the quality
has improved over time?

Are there reliability and support issues, or is the bad reputation based on
poor image quality/scaling?

I don't expect it to compete with the best screens out there, I'm not a big
home cinema enthusiast, just looking for something to give me a clear SD
grade picture. It will replace my 8 year old 51cm Sony crt.

Thanks,

Mark

AN... I second every word you said plus more...

Little (and i'm sure he would be little, not to mention in need of a shower too) scumbags like this are those who are responsible for turning the net into the crap it is these days. Remember back when everyone was civil and had a bit of decency about themselves..... aaaahhhh, it was great then.

Trouble is that these little gutter rats have figured out how to breed...!!! Now what?

Amazes me how they manage to type one handed though (you know what the other hand is doing ... :-) )

As for Samsung... I don't have one of their plasmas but I do have 2 of their tv's (34cm and 59cm).. both have been problems since I bought them with both needing repair. Samsung stuff would be ok if it was priced where its quality warrants it ... somewhere near the bottom of the ladder.
If I was spending big $$$'s on a plasma screen, which i will be doing soon, something with a bit of quality is the go, ie: Pioneer, Panasonic etc... The extra $$s will be worth it in the long run.

Plasmas, like most TVs, need to be looked at closely before buying one.
Most of the cheaper ones only have 852 x 480 pixels. This is too coarse for even
our SD digital TV. They were made for the US market and are being dumped here as
suitable for us - but they are not.

Only buy one that has more pixels than this as otherwise you will end up with a
sub-standard picture.

And of course you own a TEAC 51cm? What a load of shit, there are a heap of
Panasonic owners out there (especially PWD6UY and PA20) that are beaming
with the picture quality they are getting. Same with Fujitsu and Marantz SD
owners.

Uninformed..
