Some years ago ,when I was selling av equipment Meridian demonstrated their
cd recorder. One of the claims that was made that evening was that copies
made on the machine actually sounded better than the original!!!!!, the
reason given for this was that the clock mechanism inside the unit had to be
of a much higher quality than that found in normal cd players ( even
Meridian's) for the recordings to be of good quality. The data was reclocked
by the recorder as it entered the machine.Having a high quality clock also
meant that the player side of things sounded better.
Now I was wondering if the same thing is true of dvd recorders i.e. do they
provide better replay quality than playback only units?
Over to you guys.

I don't know on the whole but I can say (at least to my eyes) my Pioneer
player has a better image for playback pre-recorded DVD's than my Panasonic
recorder.

I have a Pioneer 510 DVD Recorder and a Pioneer 355 DVD Player. I am
extremely fussy when it comes to picture quality, but I cannot see any
difference in playback quality between the two.
