Does anyone know somewhere I can purchase a cheap (second hand would be great) small radio that can tune into the audio of local Sydney TV stations.

There's a bum who lives in my area that spends a whole lot of time watching TV through shop windows and I reackon a radio to hear the sound would be a great Christmas present for him.

Thanks

What you will need is a small battery powered pocket TV - the sort of thing you could find in cash converters for about $50 or new for probably not much more. There's no such thing as a radio that can pick up TV audio!

It's a nice idea but I would however suggest that if this guy is happy watching TV through shop windows you should probably leave him to it and attempt to buy him a decent meal instead - he is most likely suffering from the kind of serious psychological illness that is best not disturbed! He probably already has a 5.1 soundtrack running through his head...

My mate had a radio that picked up TV audio.

Tandy used to sell one... My father still uses it to this day!

It must be at least 7 years old...

Um, yes there are radios that pick up TV. I used to have such a radio and
it had 3 settings instead of the usual 2: AM, FM, and TV. It is a very
useless feature, though.

I saw one in Kmart (Panasonic I think) in the earlier days of Stereo TV
and for some while I kicked myself for not getting one as I never saw
them again. At the time it would have been the cheapest way into Stereo TV.

I used to have a VHF (air) radio which covered the freq. after FM and
included air traffic control, some police and fire and VHF TV channels... if
you could get one of those it would suit - as long as the area is
broadcasting VHF and not UHF...

Check this at Smith Dicks... http://tinyurl.com/3hrwz

An old scanner will do the job.
