Just got foxtel digital installed (satellite), with UEC decoder. Just
wondering if there are any interesting hacks around. On my previous foxtel
satellite installation i used to be able to play around with the frequencies
and tune into a few overseas stations. Curious to know if anyone has found
anything interesting yet...

I am in Brisbane, and can pick up channel 9 Brisbane. Is it possible, say,
to pick up channel 9 Sydney?

Also, can anything interesting be done with the USB port for in the back?

Any suggestions appreciated...

That really depends on what you call "interesting".

No. Irdeto 2 hasnt been cracked to the extent of the old Irdeto 1 system
yet. Don't expect fully working goldcards to be available from your local
pub anytime soon (if ever).

Foxtel Digital uses NDS Videoguard which hasn't been cracked and is not likely to be, ever.

I've heard that mafia types in Russia etc regularly contact News Corp,
Foxtel and pay TV providers all over the place threatening to release
cracked cards unless the pay operator parts with a large sum of ransom
money.

The pay operators don't pay - and guess what, there are still no cracked
cards in circulation.

If the Russian mafia can't crack NDS Videoguard, it must be a VERY secure
system.

Buddy, you really need to find something else to do with yourself. Not
funny, not helpful. You need to learn to keep it shut rather than let shit
come out of it. Do you have a daily post quota perhaps?

Are you saying that even those who created and understand it can't?
Doubtful. One falling out between Foxtel and one of their tech people
and........................... Where there's a

I think you will find that unlike Irdeto encyrption, it would require someone falling out with NDS and providing the specific version of encryption that Foxtel uses. Videoguard is tailor made for each customer so it would require specific cracking of the Foxtel version.

From what I have read, Irdeto was basically the same everywhere which is why cards were originating in Europe. I don't think the European pay TV pirates were cracking Foxtel for our specific benefit. :-P

You could try, connecting your computer [Com port 1} into the RS 232 port,
Use a null modem cable, 2 x 3, 3 x 2, and 5 x 5. Theres a few software
programs around on the net, Try Austech. Heaps of stuff there. Then when
you turn the receiver into a "Door Stop" you can report back here , And
tell us all, How you explained it away to Foxtel, and what it cost you to
replace..

Might be an idea to leave the bloody thing alone, You don,t own it, But if
you want to play silly buggers, go out and buy yourself a receiver, then you
can play all day.

I don,t think so. No series two encryption has been compromissed. And that
includes the Italian seca systems, which where supposedly cracked, then
they flicked on a little switch, Game over..
At one time in the days of series one, 500.000 cards a week where coming
out of the Eastern block Countries, All over now, and if there was a way to
resume that sort of income, it would happen.
And they would hardly be conserned with a small subscriber base like
Foxtel to hack, compaired with th rest of the world services, it's not worth
bothering with.

Yes you're right Bassett.
However, people in Italy are using Dreamboxes for NDS cardsharing. Still
unreliable but it will get better. Naples vs Mossad

Yes, Dreambox is rather proficient at CS, But it's dependant on your ADSL
connection, and your suppliers power supply

if the encryption is too hard to crack, wouldnt people just make perfect copys of the foxtel goldcards? all they have to do is obtain a foxtel digital STB... then in theory free pay tv is yours?

As you have worked it out, perhaps you can inform all of us, how do you
intend to
read the card.
And for the record, the encryption was never ever cracked, as you call it,
it was compromised to a degree, that allowed people to reproduce a card. No
one ever managed to produce a picture independent of card details.

If they did know how to do it why would they want to post how here?
