Foot traffic isn't too high on aus.cars.forsale so if no-one minds I'd
like to ask in this ng:
Does anyone have a Mazda 626/Capella Diesel Wagon for sale? Yes, must
be diesel. Prefer in Melbourne but willing to travel interstate for a
good example.

Thanks and have a great Christmas

No such beast exists.

On the Japanese market there was. In Australia, not officially but
quite a number of private import companies brought these models in from
the Japanese market. There's also a 4WD version too, but I'm after the
2WD for longevity. There are hundreds of these diesel models around.

AFAIK they do exist but they are grey imports, I recall seeing at least
one on the road.
The diesel badges got my attention.

Did a search, you're talking about some late model grey market import that's
reused the names of earlier models to which they bear no lineage.

Looking at the pics, go buy yourself a Subaru Forrester and save yourself
the heartaches associated with grey market imports.

Did you see that there is crackdown on grey market/private imports now.
Seems the authorities have found out they have been registering some poorly
reassembled "parts" that often turn out to be completely stolen vehicles
from Hong Kong and elsewhere. Then there's the issues of the compliance
requirements being very dodgey.

I had been thinking he was talking about the original Capella models and
similar era 626's.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with grey imports given the recent problems
Vic Roads are in with them. Too many dodgey operators selling unsafe or
stolen vehicles.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, there was talk of a guy in WA running these
on cooking oil! The car's for my Dad. I'd prefer him to buy a used
offically-imported '88-98 626 petrol Wagon but he stubbornly wants a
diesel. Not much difference in economy I'd have thought, but there you
go...
