I've narrowed down my purchase options to a system of the Denon 3805 and Denon 3910 with either of the above sets of speakers (6.1 config).
To my ear there's not much difference between the speaker alternatives. The Whatmoughs are slightly less expensive (not much), but either would be quite acceptable. Indeed, with the Denon d-link working between the AVR and DVD, the sound quality is absolutely amazing.
Does anyone have experience of these and could offer an opinion?
