I have successfully installed the SLIM PS2 with DMS4 pro - including the neo fix.
It was kinda hard!!!

I'll try to get the pictures if I can get a mem. card reader or bluetooth
to transfer the images from my phone-camera. They are not good
quality pics, but it would probably help those who'd like to install...

I must say, SLIM PS2 is really cool.
Its sleek design is more than meets the eye.
Kinda dangerous and fragile at the same time
knowing that you might get that "laser-burnt"
problem...
We'll see if the neo fix does its trick as it should.

I hope to do more work in the near future on this SLIM PS2...

which neo fix did you use ?, and where did you get it ?, i'm looking for the new "neo fix xii" because it also has the current limiting PIC on it and offers better protection than just diodes.

my v12 with dms4 lite is still going after about a month but i think i should install the fix asap just in case.

The neo fix I put in was the FIRST version.

I totally understand that NEO FIX was not the
ABSOLUTE solution to the laser burnt problem.

I know a few people who installed DMS4 modchip
without any "FIX" and have been successful without
the laser burnt problem.

It could have been the thickness of your Power/GND.
who knows!!!

the new v12 slim ps2's have a very high risk of laser burnout after the installation of a modchip, some people are saying upto 90% failure, to prevent this a neo fix or similar is solderled to the mainboard which bypass's some of sony's poor quality components, the first versions of the neo fix were just 8 diodes that can be bought at dick smiths and you basically replace the ones on the ps2, but the new versions of the neo fix also feature a PIC that regulates current and offers further protection, and in theory this prevents the burnout of the laser. there were similar problems with the v9 ps2's when they came out.

Use Magic V KX+ v9 - v12 chips in your PS TWO machines, wont need any diode or laser fix. It was the first and only chip that didnt and still doesnt need any silly "fix".

Don't tell me!!!

Have you had any REAL Magic V KX+ modchip install on V12 PS2???
And 100% success?

I am curious..
If you can prove that it does work well WITHOUT laser burnt problem,
MAN, I'd really go for the Magic V chip then.

thx,
H

do u need a neo fix in v9 ps2?

no, but there is a different fix that some installers do with Ver 9's, involving disconnecting a pin on the laser controller chip (LA6508R) and connecting the pin to 5 Volts, this stops the chip burning out due to overvoltage (a common problem with version 9 and some chips).

I am so glad I dont do PS2's

Well I cant really proove it, but including myself and two other people, over 100 machines in the last 2 or 3 months and not 1 has a laser problem. The Magic V KX+ has been copied and its called "The Muppet" and divineo is selling it, but price is much the same as the original. Anyway the KX+ doesnt need a laser fix and I dont know why people bother with all these fixes and crap for other modchips.

the v9's also have a problem with the laser burning out but it's not as bad, i doubt it's that already. what is the ps2 doing, is it booting ?, does it read original discs?, remember the dms4chips wont read backups until you flash them with the right bios.

what do you mean 'flash with the right bios'? i soldered all the wires but what is bios?

the ps2 boots once if i press the reset button 20 times. and it reads original.

what are the symtoms of your problem ?, if your ps2 boots and then comes up "playstation 2" is if it's about to load when using a backup game and then it just goes black then you need the "toxic" bios. the dms4 chips come with a legal bios so they don't get sued, the legal bios will not play backups it can olny be used for development, so then they wait for some people to make a bios that allows you to play backups, this way dms is not responsible. the "toxic bios" is the bios you need to play backups, search the net, you should be able to donwload it as an iso, burn it to cd, it will boot in your ps2 and say do you want to flash chip, you say yes. the next time you boot a backup it will say "toxic" under the "playstation 2" and it will work fine. Providing that you installed the chip correctly, when it comes to installing playstation chip there are 100 things that can go wrong.

it's your install. resolder all points, use flux on all points (helps the solder stick)if that doesn't work, remove the chip completely and check the ps2 boots every time and then re-install it. you will either have a dry joint (looks like it's making contact but it isn't) or a solder bridge, or a wire in the wrong place, it's all up to you now.

There are many things you have to extremely follow when installing modchips.
Here are a few:

1. CLEAN all the soldering points. ALL SURFACES MUST BE very clean
(use flux). So when you solder, those points are in good contact.
2. WIGGLE your wire a little bit and notice, if it moves, even a little - you
must resolder and make sure it's securely soldered/fixed.

And there are million other things you must follow.
Check the internet - google, for requirements.

a. solder that is less than 18 watt (I use 13watt)
b. "Ground" wire must be short and thick
c. especially DMS3, all wires must be short. DMS4 is not too touchy about this.

Have fun troubleshooting.
