View Full Version : Question about plasma resolution?

Can someone answer me this question? I notice that there are several HD
42" plasma models with a vertical resolution of 1024 (Fujitsu in
particular), yet the 50" models don't appear to go that high. Why is this?

The screens with a 1024 vertical res also have a 1024 horizontal res. So the
pixels are rectangular. You need more than 1024 in width for a 50" screen, so
it's probably not cost effective to use the rectangular pixel technology for
that size screen.

So, is it therefore true to say that the 42" HD (1024x1024) Fujitsu plasma
has a higher resolution than the 50" (1364? x 768). Does this 'pixel shape'
provide any noticeable improvement in picture quality (all other things
being equal)?

The 1024*1024 screens are an entirely different approach to plasma display - You should search for discussions on ALis displays (1024*1024). eg here (http://www.avsforumfaq.com/~plasma/#alis)
There is quite a debate about which is better, so I would suggest that it is not clear. To my eye, I dont like the 1024 panels at all.
All plasmas have to downconvert signals that are at higher resolution to fit their display (1024*1024, 1024*768, 1365*768).
The pixel shape affects the overall image - but it is a matter of personal preference. Mine is for the 1365*768.
