I am about to buy the I-Mate PDA2k EVDO Pocket PC Phone Edition.
Is there anyone else in Australia using one, and if so what mobile company
and plan are you on that gives you good value for your monthly spend ?
Howdy
I've just got one.. because its a CDMA device with 1x/ev-do you only have
one choice of carrier telstra mobile, non of the telstra resellers offer
data services with packet data.
http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/business/products/mobilebroadband.htm?tR=3m
You can choose from those plans for data..
Few things.. you can have a voice plan on the volume traffic bundles... on
the hour bundles it comes with a default voice you cant change..
Voice Calls and SMS do not come out of any of the above values..
If you choose a hourly plan the voice rate is 48.5c per 30 seconds, 25c
flagfall and 25c sms, No Bonus Options..
Also if you pick a Hourly plan, note its billed in 15 minute chunks.. you
log on for 2 minutes, your billed for 15, you use 16, billed for 30..
If you have any questions about the device it self feel free to ask :)

If that PDA only uses Telstra as its carrier CDMA and their rip off rates,
maybe I should just buy the standard I-mate PDA2K with Wifi and choose a
capped plan from companies like Vodafone, Orange etc ?

The PDA2K is a CDMA device that only runs on telstra, it provies up to
80/80kbs on 1x, and upto 600/80kbs on EV-DO, with no wifi..
The PDA2K is a GSM handset with GPRS, so 50/20kbs on gprs in normal use,
plus wifi access.. So it will only work on Optus, Telstra, Vodafone (Orange
run on CDMA)
Voda is the only one who offers capped gprs at $49.95 for 500mb of
uploads/downloads..
Optus is $5.50 per megabyte..
