View Full Version : For CDMA Telstra Prepaid Users

For those of you on the (old) Telstra Prepaid system and on the CDMA
network, you would know by now that the system is about to be dumped, and
you will be forced over to Telstra Prepaid Plus (or disconnected).
Telstra have tried to sweeten the old TPP users by offering a complimentary
credit of $15 when migrated over to TPP+.
However, if you look at the current "Our Terms" (formerly SFOA) document on
the Telstra website, it points out that "If you connect to a Telstra
Pre-Paid Plus CDMA service from 1 November 2004 until 13 February 2005, you
will receive double the value of your recharges for 12 months from
activation" - refer
http://www.telstra.com.au/customerterms/docs/promotions.pdf
Telstra have confirmed that migrations from TPP to TPP+ do not qualify for
the double recharge offer.
So, the best idea is to port away from Telstra (eg: using a Vodafone $2 SIM
from Woolies/Safeway/DSE) and then port back to Telstra (TPP+) to take up
the offer (you will essentially be a "new" customer.
Note that the above offer is different to that also being offered by Telstra
at present with a CDMA handset bundle and double recharge, which finishes
the end of January - refer

Does porting from Voda GSM to a disconnected Telstra CDMA phone work
smoothly?
A catch with your idea below: Presumably you lose any account balance in
your Telstra Prepaid account when you port to Voda.

Yep, you would.
Just an idea for anyone who doesn't have a useful means of using up the
credit before porting - donate your remaining balance via SMS to a
tsunami relief fund.
NB. WV's the only fund in Australia I know of that takes SMS donations;
details here:
SMS "unite" to the following numbers:
$2 - 193 002
$5 - 193 005
$10 - 193 010
http://www.legioninteractive.com.au/reachout.asp
https://www.worldvision.com.au/appeals/tsunami/
Update: Bugger... on closer inspection, it seems the SMS donation
lines close Tuesday 11/1/05. Hopefully if enough messages are still
coming in, they'll see fit to keep them open a little longer. Will
have to see if I can pull out my spare iSIM card(s) sometime soon.

and i note that you can keep donating well past your balance limit with the
old Telstra Prepaid. I wonder if Telstra will ever chase that up?

There will be all sorts of issues getting tsunami donations to the aid
agencies.
I bet there's all sorts of fineprint in the agreements that Telstra has for
doing (or failing to do) this. Those agreements probably make Telstra's
consumer contract look like a walk in the park.
