Did anyone see the story, something about 1 million car owners have bad
news, and their cars are worthless ??
What was it about, I missed it ??
Thanks

Yay! now all we have to do is phase out petrol altogether,
Evil grin :-)

Seriously - I hate petrol and can use just about anything
oily in the TD vehicle I have.

Stuck on the farm W/O petrol for the dirt bike or generator,
had to make up a mix of turps, _stale_ petrol and kero to get
the generator going. Not happy Jan! - considering I had a whole
heap of diesel and kero on hand. Dirt bike hated the mix, so
had to go on an early shopping trip into town :-(

Isn't it time petrol power went away altogether, now we have
high tech diesel? Petrol is dangerous, volatile, yukky stuff.

I'd be interested in how many statistics of folk burnt to
death in accidents were factored into speed limits where
death/injury would not have happened if a safer fuel was
used? Hmmmm. I could name a few locally.

Dunno what to do about cheap arse 2 stroke petrol engines
though, such as line trimmers, etc :-(

My thoughts exactly.
My list of old cars that are already suitable for ULP says that Volvo's
after 1975 (one of the owners complaining had a 1984 Volvo) can safely
use PULP, if it was my car I would try it on ULP and if it didn't ping
what I would use ULP.

On the same page is a picture of Phi Phi island Post 2004 Tsunami and
these people are complaining about the lack of capital of value and
running costs for a 18 year old rust bucket ???

The journo cant even get the name of the fuel right.

Its not leaded - hasn't been leaded for a few years. Its LRP - lead
replacement petrol.

Reporter didnt even know there was a LONG list of pre 1986 vehicles that
can run ULP just fine ,

I liked the emotive spin of the old codger with the old Chevy saying he
didn't "trust" the new fuel. Nothing scientific behind his reasoning at
all. Just a gut feeling. Wankers. Must be hard up for stories now they
have done the tsunami to death.

in the old days our 85 740gle was refused gas conversion by every company it
was taken to, im assuming it was because of soft valve seats, so it would
probably shit itself on regular unleaded too.

That just *so* unlike TT to miss a few well known facts to get in the way of
a good headline. As always, its target audience are the bogans of society.

All chev V8s originally made with tapered seat spark plugs are either
alloy heads with inserts or induction hardened cast iron. Even the
original HQ 350 engines are ULP engines...

While the Volvo runs straight LPG, there is no theoretical reason why
the engine couldn't run on PULP except that it wouldn't comply with
ADR 27A.

I didn't watch it, so I don't know what model of chev it was...

The bit about an '85 Holden SK... That'd be a Barina, wouldn't it?

The '85 Swift/Barina 1.3 engine was a high compression item, being
otherwise the same as the '85 4WD engine and the '86-on swift and
4WD engines... Needs PULP due to the compression but no additive
and certainly no $400 "convertor"?!? WTF?

Funny thing was that the HG with the 350, cold air intake,
extractors, etc. used to have fuel costs on par with my father's
'85 Swift due to the cost of LRP vs LPG. :-)

Brew your own ethanol, drink that and buy some petrol for the whipper
snipper. Alternatively you could make your own compression ignition
model aeroplane engine from scratch that would most likely run diesel,
fly that about the place and buy some petrol for the whipper snipper.

B&S motor in the generator?

I reckon.

Petrol has historically been responsible for some mishaps on bushfire
trucks that were very nasty indeed.

Turbo diesel whipper snipper? :D

Y'know what, I might even have a sacrificial plane engine to try that on.

Original '32 or '33 I think, and the "retired" mechanic was just as old.

He probably didn't truct timing lights either, and preferred to do it by ear
:)

HaHaHonda, nah not a bad little motor, noisy as, so goes
over ----------> there, on a long extension lead.

Ouch!

Heavy but interesting. I want the turbo diesel dirt bike first!

Ethanol was in short supply too. Bugger it - just make livers diesel
powered as well, that way you only have to brew one bio friendly
fuel :-)

Only because they wouldn't let him keep his steam tractor.

Was he under the delusion that modern LRP was any closer than modern ULP
to what was sold in 1932?
