Just a reminder that the Orange Prepay changes previously announced
come into effect from midnight tonight.

You have just over two hours to whack on a $33 recharge (the minimum
currently available) and have that credit last you 365 days as
recharges applied from tomorrow will be subject to the new expiry
periods (eg. the $33 recharge amount expires in 60 days).

I've chucked on one $33 recharge to each of my two Orange Prepay (with
TalkZone) services via the credit card top-up number. If you don't
have a credit card, you can use E-Pay at all the usual outlets.

See <www.orange.net.au> for more information - click on the "browse Q
& A's" link on the right-hand navigation bar or
<http://orange.custhelp.com/>.

A summary of the changes taken from the Orange web site appears below:

"Great news! In early 2005, Orange will be launching a new prepaid
service packed with more features. In preparation for this we are no
longer accepting new Orange Metro PrePay customers. We will, of
course, continue to support our existing Metro PrePay customers, but
with an enhanced service and changes to a few of your Metro PrePay
charges. These will come into effect from the 13th January 2005.

From this time you will be able to use your Orange prepaid phone
almost anywhere in Australia with our new prepaid national roaming
feature! You will also be able to send international SMS for only 22c
per message. You will also benefit from some great new call and
balance management features on the Orange Metro PrePay service such
as:

- being able to easily check the details of your last 10 calls
whenever you want, wherever you are, using your Orange PrePay phone
for free
- get free SMS warnings when your call credit balance falls below $5
and / or when you call credit is within 5 days of expiry

Orange will also be making some other changes your Orange Metro PrePay
service.

These changes will include changes to:

- some of your call charges
- the recharge top up amounts, expiry periods and the recharge only
period".

Why wack any money on?
Just rang up and my existing balance of $16.88 will expire in 362 days

Because whacking on $30 before gives that credit a 365 day expiry,
whacking on after gives that same $30 a 60 day expiry.

(This is assuming you want to put on ANY credit in the first place. In
your case, you're fine as you are, it appears).

I think ill take the 362 days, after that it will probably be disconnected

I tried recharging at 10.31pm on 12 Jan ($30) however for some reason they
"claim" it never went through and they disconnected me. Luckily I kept the
receipt number, so their "technicians" (someone with half a clue) will look
into it.

Orange. Fair?

You will just have to wait and see, I guess.

I cant complain, had the thing since 2001 with minimal to no recharge. 4
years is good value
My Telstra Prepaid at about 4.5 is slightly better value :-)

Yep, same problem. I had the receipt faxed to me. They want me to call
in everu 60 days to re-apply the outstanding credit. We'll see about
that.

Make sure they extend the credit for the full 365 days. They temporarily
credited me with $10 but it expires in 31 days. I have phoned and e-mailed
them. Suggest you take it to the Ombudsman if not sorted out soon (after
asking for a team leader).

Issue addreseed; credit re-established + they added an extra $20 (won;t
complain!) and expiry extended to 366 days from today! Fair!

Looks like that you and I weren't the only ones to suffer this
problem.

I was told that Orange had to implement a quick fix to allow the
customer service staff to add credits with a 366 day expiry.

I see. It's wrong that they stuffed up, but at least they did co-operate
when asked. Other telcos do nothing until the TIO write to them.

I threatened with the TIO on this one which is when one of my contacts
in Customer Relations called and said that they had a fix put in
place.

Trust me, their preferred stated solution was to have customers phone
in every 6 months to have credits reapplied.

Lying again.
