There is a catch though - a big one. If you read terms and conditions
of service you see that you agree that they can send info about you to
people with a similr profile, AND CHARGE YOU FOR DOING THAT

Hmm didn't know about that - haven't been charged for anything yet
though.

Vazu does not charge you for any of our services, and if we do start charging fees then we will always be very clear about how much and how often you will be charged. We will get your explicit permission before charging you for new services.
I think Zaphy's quote was referring to sms.ac's terms & conditions, because Vazu's terms don't say anything like that. I'm not sure exactly what sms.ac's billing model is (and I encourage you to look it up for yourself), but the rumours I've heard are not favorable.

This was my post, and it was related to the terms and conditions as
published by sms, not Vazu (I haven't read theirs)

Our registration system currently requires you to have a verifiable mobile phone number in order to create an account. This helps to cut down on abuse, but we hope to be relaxing that restriction soon. Once that is in place, you'll be able to use either our website or our downloadable PC client to send free messages to any mobile phone.

You can use http://www.mercury.uk.net/ which is a desktop application
to send messages via sms.ac (and several other suppliers - free and non
free).
I will also look at providing support for Vazu.

Richard.
