Orange now claims to have implemented the CDMA 1XRTT in selected
places on its network - mainly built-up areas. Customers that have
congestion problems are sometimes switched to 1XRTT.

The short story is, you can ask to be switched to "1X Preferred" so
that your handset uses the 1XRTT network in areas where it is
available. You need to have a CDMA 1XRTT-compatible handset and a
mobile-only plan (that is, no TalkZone local number).

I've had 3 mobile-only services switched over to "1X Preferred" - all
located in various parts of the Orange network. Guess what? None of
the services show that they are connected to the CDMA 1XRTT network.

I bet that the rollout isn't as complete as they say it is.

Note: Orange customers automatically connect to Telstra CDMA 1XRTT
when national roaming irrespective of whether the service is marked as
"1X Preferred". I don't know if this also holds true for Orange
Prepaid services.
