Hello all,

Just wondering if other Motorola V620 users out there have been able to
get the cell location information displayed on the screen? ie
Displaying the current city or suburb you are currently in, instead of
the network name like I currently have.

Is there a menu option in the phone to enable this? Is it something
the network has to send? Or is the V620 not able to display this info?

I had this feature on the T610 and would like to have the same thing on
the V620.

Thanks

Matt

Matt, I'm pretty sure it can't be done unfortunately. I have tried to get it
to go on mine too with all the settings for Network etc in the phone to no
avail. I too have come from a T610 and find that being able to read the
display and hear the thing ring are worth the upgrade alone.....I hope
someone can definatively tell us if the cell location is available. Cheers,
Greg.

Check the Craparola ng. From what I recall there it can be done, but
typical Motorola stuff - hidden very deep in some obscure menu.

This works for the V600

Enable Cell Info:
Message -> Info Services -> Setup -> Service On / Active Channels ->
50 /
Quick View 50 / Save Quick View No

Yep.. that did it. Thanks mate!

Out of curiosity, is there a list anywhere which specifies what is on
each channel?

Thanks again. :)

Bugger, I can't get it to work. Do you have to manually enter ch.50 in the
list? My list only goes up to 20, It said the channel list was full. I then
deleted ch20 and put in ch50. Still didnt work. Any ideas? Thanks. Cell info
is available in my area btw. Greg.

Well I deleted channel 20 and added channel 50 and it worked for me.
I'm on the telstra network.
Try deleting another channel. (Channel 2 worked for me).

I wonder what info comes in on those channels? If we disable certain
channels will it effect other areas?

Hmmm, still no joy with your suggestions Matt. Dunno what other settings
might be affecting this. Did your display change immediately after you
changed the settings or did you have to re-boot? I tried rebooting and still
nothing. Greg.

Just looked at the phone when I finished sending the above.....It works now
with ch.2 deleted. Thanks Everyone. Greg. Woo hoo.

There is nothing on any of the channels except ch50

Hey all,

Yeah.. Mine is sometimes changing.. sometimes not. Some other times it
is reverting back to displaying the Date.

I have disabled ALL channels except for channel 50. Sometimes if I
reset the Info Services from On to Off and back again it works again
for a while.

This is a LOT of hassle for it to just display the fucking location!!

Is there any other options? Something that PKMan can do via a hexedit
of one of the seem or bin files?

Proves my point
Motorola cant even implement ch50 cell id properly

the most basic of the basics

Some old Ericsson user manuals list the "standard" assignments.
Only channel 50 is used in Aus. Others we don't get include:

10 news
20 hospitals
24 pharmacies
30 highway reports
32 local road reports
34 taxis
40 weather

A lot of that information is obtainable in other ways, via USSD or SMS

USSD - do you mean Unstructured Supplementary Services Data?

If so, how do we use that? Maybe I'm missing something obvious,
but I've never found a way to get that sort of info out of USSD
commands like "AT+CUSD".

OK, thanks. That USSD request triggered a SIM Toolkit SMS from
Telstra which set up an on-screen menu. It looks like the
front door to some (chargable) WAP stuff.

Now to catch that incoming SMS somehow and and manually decode
it before it auto-deletes...
