Hello Folks,

I have been looking for a work car for quite sometimes, been hitching a hike
for around 2 months. Anyway, I saw an local Ad which advertised a Nissan
Pulsar 1997 for $5000. I called relatively early because on many occasions,
I got beaten by dealers because they called at very early time. So, I called
the bloke and arranged inspection time and repeatedly asked him to keep the
car available for me when I get there and he promised.

3 quarter of the way Woolloongabba - Brisbane QLD, he called me up and said
the car was sold. He said some guy came and bought the car for his daughter.
But I know that it is totally bullshit and I am 90 % sure that it was a
dealer whom may have offered more money for the car.

What really made me sad and pissed off is that we live in one of the most
civilised countries in the world and yet a bloke can broke his promise for
maybe a few hundred dollars more. I mean I totally understand if this
incidence happened in some third world countries where money means survival.

I also sure that the dealer will have the car at some yard or in a local Ad
for $3000- $4000 more next week.

When you think about it, The good old Private Car bargain is no longer
exist, the Personaltradingpost which costs you nearly $3 dollars and it is
filled with dealers whom asking ridiculous price on thrashed vehicles.

Car Dealers use all their "Cunning Tools" to grab all the Private Sale
bargains and leave "genuine car seekers" no choice but to go to them and get
ripped off on the very same car that they could have bought privately ( I
had never seen a decent carsale man - has anyone???)

Thanks for letting me whinning here. It's good to get it out of my chest

That ain't all. Seems you missed the main game in town.
Consider all the tricks GovCo has placed out there to ensure dealers
get your cash. What with safety certificates, Rowdworthy certs and
sundry other obstacles, it's a wonder anyone at all bothers to sell or
buy their cars privately.
Of course, this is mostly done under the guise of 'safety' and other
motherhood matters, the idea is to force you into the clutches of the
traditional used car salesman - who lobby for just that privilege.

You, Mr Wood-duck - are supposed to make the running - to control what
GovCo and their friends with money do.
But you can't.
That's really what you should be whinning(sic) about. Not much else
matters in the final analysis - which is that your GovCo is NOT in any
way your servant, and as we speak it is pointing its arse in your
general direction. From lots of different directions, too.

Don't believe me? Check that drawer full of receipts, and think about
what those receipts actually bought. Start with the GST component -
because it's easy to figure, and move on from there.
Please report back to us with the results:-)

Not certain though. It could have easily been anyone. He probably got an
offer and wasn't sure that you were going to even turn up so took it. He
might have previously lost out on a sale because he held it for someone who
never showed up.

As I read it, he was first come. The seller gave an undertaking he would
hold the car until the OP had inspected it. The seller broke his word, it's
as simple as that.

That's fair enough, but I'd expect to be told that over the phone,
rather than being promised that it'll be there to look at when I get
there.

Something like, "I can't promise it won't be sold before you get here
though."

I explained to him about how bad I need the car for and asked if I could
come straight away. But he would not let me. He told to come a specific time
because he wanted to sleep in or something. I did exactly that I got dress
and sat at home and waited for him to wake up.

Beside, I repeatedly told him that I am almost certain that I would have
bought it. I did leave both my house number and my Mobile and assure him
that I was a serious buyer.

"First in best dress"......... OK i was the first caller and i wanted to be
there first but he denied me that option.....

I sold an TV a while back. I put it up a for good price. Even though, many
people offered more money but i still kept it for the University dude
because i made a promise and i know how much it meant to him comparing
others whom would have bought and then resell.

I dont mean to keep on whinning but I just can't believe that someone can
blatenly broke their promise for few hundred bucks.

***Why would i be naive to expect a promise to be kept by another civilised
being in a normal course of business? How else do we do business in this
world?

***What......come over and buy the "item" but bear in mind that on your
100km trip over, i could have sold it to someone else and tell you to go
home as soon as you get to my fornt door.

If you rang me and arranged a time, and I agreed, but you had to travel
100km, you would take 1.5 hrs to arrive (or more).

In that time, someone who lives 5 mins away can ring, come and see the
car, and offer cash.

As a seller, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Do you know
what that saying means?

Get a life....

How many times do supposed buyers NEVER show up to see a car. Even though
they say they are coming.
If you are selling a car you sell to the first person who hands over the
CASH!! Get over it.

The other point is how you assume that a dealer bought it. What makes you
think that?
I think you need a reality check..

Nick

Well it may be fashionable in 2005 to take the money.... but the seller and
along with a number of you here are gutter scum.

If your word is no good neither are you. And I dont care if you've been
stung by a no-show. They are scum too.

I imagine if he made Dean wait until a certain time he already had other
buyers 'booked in' earlier. Even more of a scumbag.

Its not unknown to be clocked by someone doing shit like that.

Nick... ...

BTW dean... save your pennies and buy new. Most dealers are losers who
couldnt do anything else. Buying new cuts them out of the loop

You know the drill - Money has no morals.
That's what really applied here.

Doesn't mean you need to become an instant arsehole over the matter,
but it does mean you have to assume anyone who wants your money IS an
arsehole. BTW, waking arseholes early won't result in a complaint
anyway, because they want your money.
Hint:
And the more of everyone else's money that arsehole has taken, the
more of an arsehole they are.

Don't believe the bullshit - especially the the 'invoices' they'll
show you.
They make a shitload more per car than you ever imagined.
This one has been done to death here, BTW.
Remember Mike err Hunt, anyone?

A few days days ago I had a tyre salesman telling me they made 10
Bucks a tyre. An another one claiming the same on a tyre 25% more
expensive. To me, that is.
It's truly fucken amazing what us wood-ducks are required to believe
in the process of enriching the big end of town.
