Hi,
I tried a mates Trio box at my place and I was hooked on digital, it got all the channels and they were "crystal".
So I went to JB and got a Nintaus DT200, which does everything I want it to, except it gets a poor signal on Channel 7 feeds and some ABC feeds. Going to take it back and go for either th Teac DVB420 or the Kaon KTF200. Any suggestions as to which will be best bet.
Don't need anything flash from the box....just easy to use and give a good picture on all the channels...........shouldn't hard should it!!

There's another thread from late last month that talks about the DVB420. Not
good they say. I have friends in a poor signal are that started with a
DVB420 & only got mixed results (like what you're getting). They swapped it
for a KTF200 & presto! All good. It sounds like it will handle weaker
signals much better.

It's a feature stated on the Kaon's box actually - something about great
tuning ability in poor signal areas.

I'm getting a Kaon myself soon. I like the size, price and it's operation.
Beats the shit out my 1st gen Thomson for features and price ;)

That's good. They should all be sold with a tuner sensitiity figure. It
would make it more likely to get the right STB first time out.

I agree. The Kaon box doesn't actually have a sensitivity figure though -
just words that it's designed for low or difficult signal reception areas,
but it's a start, and it's what drew my attention to this unit in the first
place.

There are a plethora of $199 SD boxes on the market right now but this is
the only one making the claim that it works in dodgy signal situations,
which says to me that they have taken the time in the designing stage to
overcome a problem which seems to be present with the DVB system. IMO all
local manufacturers should look at this tuner senstivity thing because the
distances are so large, and the transmission power so low in this country,
that an adapted Euro UHF DVB design isn't going to cut it really. Prime
example - my 1st gen Thomson heap. Even the Strong I now use in the lounge
isn't *that* fantastic on the tuner side, but it's better than the Thomson
crap.

A friend bought 2 Kaons actually, and took them up to the mid north coast,
where the one he actually installed managed to pick up the ABC and SBS up
there no problems, from a very low signal apparently. He returned them both
though because he got conned by an AusStar installer who stated that he
didn't need digital up there because they could supply digial off their
satelite - not strictly true IMO. Yes, it's DVB-S, but it ain't 16:9 for a
start as far as I'm aware - so his nice new 103cm 16:9 rear projected LG
screen is now showing everything 4:3 stretched, and it gripes me that he's
not even worried, or even can tell me that it looks strange.....ho hum.....

I just threw my hands in the air and washed my hands of advising this
person, but at least I got a rave review from an ignorant person about
something which I thought was actually an advertising trick ;)
