Just a quick one....what are your opinions on the Kia Cerato? *ducks for
cover*
Seems like a good level of features for the price. Engine is the 2.0L from
the Hyundai Elantra. Looks ok too for 18,990 drive away...with 6yr/175K
dealer warranty.
Any known issues/problems with them?

They're fine so long as you don't live near salt water, don't drive like
it is a race car, and don't hit anything.

I don't pay for badges, which is why i drive a Hyundai.
Diesel is the only option on the Preggio. I view that as a major plus
rather than a minus.

Odd rumour.
Hi Ace outsold the Pregio despite being significantly more expensive.

Holden were still selling an awful lot of Commodores in 1985 despite
having an engine that was about 15 years past it's useby date.

Buyers of vans are willing to pay a premium price for a vehicle like the
HiAce with a very good reputation for quality and reliablity.
The Pregio may turn out to be a good vehicle but at this point in time
its long term durability is unknown.

Not really. Considering the incredibly poor build-quality (& hence
longevity) of the majority of Korean cars, it's going to take a long
time before the majority of people will believe that one will last as
long as a Toyota does. I really don't think Toyota would be willing to
chuck their reputation away so quickly; if Kias being bought now have a
good reputation in 10 years time, Toyota might do it then (but
considering the bodginess of the Festiva & the Rio, I have my doubts
it'll be that soon).

I worry about the longevity of their cars, although this might have improved
under Hyundai's ownership. Just about every Festiva you see about the place
now is dog-eared and has faded paint and cracked plastics, and the same is
true for the 98-98 Kia Mentor at the end of my street. I can't think of
many other cars that have fared so badly in such a short time.

Thing is, they might be a lot better now, but you won't know for another
five to ten years. How long do you want to keep it?

This is the thing. The likes of Kias are cheap and its quite likely
you will keep them for 4 years and unload it.
Sure you won't get a good price on a trade but then again what was the
$$'s out of your pocket in comparsion to a Corolla etc

Apart from the Mustang, i've never kept any car for more than 3 or 4
years, I get board of them :)

and have to fork out to fix them. Hence it might be better on the
pocket to buy the likes of a Kia and have trouble free motoring for a
few years then dump it for a new one.

which is the normal fleet owner strategy. So why don't fleet owners buy Kias or
Magnas?

Some do, well Magna's at least.

The Government has a large fleet of Magna's amongst it's various
departments, but that's more to do with their policy of whacking up the
purchasing amongst the local manufacturers to keep everyone happy than
anything else. Other private fleets, particularly rental and small fleet
buyers don't seem to mind them either as they're good value buying.

Yesterday I traded my 97 Verada for a new Kluger CV I almost cried when I
found out the trade in value of my Verada was $8500. When new it was almost
a $50 grand car. I knew their resale value was not all that great but I
didn't know it was that shitful.
