New Music Game

Las I love this game but I'm so addicted to it I'm beginning to think I could be putting some of the others off which is a shame because I think the game is more enjoyable and more competitive if others join in so do you think I should be handicapped? Here is one way: If I answer a bonus song perhaps I should get only 2 points for it not 5. I also welcome suggestions from others about how I could be handicapped.
Also, when your uni starts again, perhaps we should start a new round, still with a handicap in place for me. What do others think?

Here’s another suggestion:
If someone enters songs that stump everyone, like the current two that Davdster has submitted, perhaps after a week or two if they are still not solved then that person, in this case Davdster, should get the bonus points. In this case, because Davdster is also a player, they would get only 5 points. If it is a non-player who has submitted the songs then they should get 10 points, that way you could also put yourself on the score-board. That is if you (Las) is the one who stumps us you get 10 points for each song if it is still unsolved after a week or two

I think Las would know if something was too obscure, which is why I posted my guess of The Utopian Babies (for TUB) yesterday. I saw The Utopian Babies in concert about 5 or 6 years ago now, at the Metro and they were pretty good which is why I remembered them. Las has said my guess is wrong. If my guess had been correct I would have said they would be in an "obscure" category.

Even though your guess was wrong, it's still a really obscure tune. It's one I only ever heard once on TV, downloaded it and have listened to (occassionally) since. Personally I think it should be worth about 10 points if people can get it. I've sent Las some clues so when she feels it necessary to use them she'll post them for ya to use.

is that ok with everyone?? I’m saying start from scratch only when you have a new set of rules in place that are OK with everyone. Just for now I’ll limit myself to 5 guesses per day but it’s probably going to be less than that for the next few days at least because it has suddenly become very busy where I work. Yesterday I missed a couple of my legitimate breaks and when I did get a break I chose to post elsewhere in the forum. I had a comment to make about Video Hits yesterday and I thought it was more important to make that comment rather than play a game. I’m going to put some ideas together and at the end of today I’ll post them for everyone to view and make comments.
Perhaps when the “new” rules or guidelines are in place you might even be able to “advertise for more participants” in the general chat threads (e.g. Off-topic Freq chatter in the MMM Forum and EYO Addicts Rehab Centre in the General Chat Forum) so that we can get more players or even just participants who wish to submit songs to you for inclusion. I like this game much better when there are more people participating - it becomes more challenging.

Las did you see this? I thought Darcy321 was correct :confused: It is post 435 on page 29 and because it is the last post on the page they are often easily missed.

the game of love by someone... lol I posted shortly after (quoting Darcy321) and said Santana but only because I knew it. In my opinion it is much harder to get the title than it is to get the artist and I think Darcy321 really should have been awarded full points for it. Take 0.5 points off me and give it to Darcy321.

to me its too hard!! I have a very broad knowledge of songs. I was brought up listening to all types of music. Mum & Dad are Beatles fans, Mum also likes the Hal David & Burt Bacharach songs. Mum used to have loads of old 78’s which included songs by Nat King Cole. My sister is a disco fan and also a huge Madonna & INXS fan. All my family are big fans of Motown music too, i.e. Diana Ross & The Supremes, Temptations, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, et al. I listen to Triple M a lot as well as watching Rage and Video Hits so I know many rock songs and pop songs. I have family including cousins living in the country (north east Victoria) who are country music fans, which is how I got DP - J (Dolly Parton - Jolene).
Most of the songs I get by looking at the letters of the song title, then just try to put words together. This is particularly useful in the case of one-hit-wonder songs, e.g. MRTC was “Many Rivers To Cross”, a song which I remember from Sunday School days (as a kid). Because the person was a one-hit-wonder it was a case of a little bit of “research” to get the name.
LE - TL was a little harder. I looked at LE and the only artist I could think of that matched LE was Little Eva, again I heard the original version of The Loco-Motion courtesy of my country cousins. It was tricky because if a hyphenated word is part of the song title, it looks like Las is only putting the first letter. However “The Loco-Motion” is also often written as “The Locomotion” (which is actually an incorrect way of writing the title because it is a dance, not a description of a train).

I’ve spent so long preparing this post this morning I’ve run out of time to post guesses to any of the songs this morning so I apologise if I’ve been off-topic this morning :o

If this song is correct I think we need independent judges on how obscure this song is. The artist certainly is obscure, before today I had never heard of her.
While I think it is obscure others may not think so, therefore if others agree, I think the person who submitted it deserves to get 5 points for it if this is the correct song. I only worked it out because I started looking at common one-word song titles starting with S, like Stay, Seven, Sliver, Shiver, Shivers, Silver, Say, Skin, Slide, Silence, Sadness, etc

Until Las says so, BP - S is still open for others to guess :)
