Not according to the website unfortunately, where was it advertised? I'd
certainly buy at that price if a Vic store would match.

They're stickered at $978 at Preston in Melb. Unless the Launceston store is
looking at making a loss on these, id doubt that price is right.

web site show hobart only with stock and no price reduction either.
Doubt they would sell below cost price.

Quick.
Get one before they go!
I paid $845 for the 120GB version at DSE which is still near the bottom end for price.
$147 saving at for the loss of 40GB sounds good to me (unless you don't delete recordings promptly and need 120GB).
Either way, put the savings towards a 200+ GB drive upgrade when the warranty runs out (or before like I plan to).

Problem is there is absoltuely no verification that this deal exists
anywhere but in Tassy. The other issue i have with this is that noadtv(or
dvrdirect as they may be known), claim to have all remaining stock of the 80
gb topfields in OZ. So where did DSE get them from? Their website makes no
mention of it an i was in store late last week and saw no sign of any 120 gb
units little lone 80 gb units. I know they are having a sotcktake sale next
week(knida early really), but seems odd that there is no sign of any
advertising. Given how quickly these would sell. Really.

It wasn't advertised, it was just a shelf price (red clearance price
tag). It must be the 80Gb version. Someone on the DBA forum confirmed
the price by phone at his local Dick Smith. I was kicking myself as I
paid $1000 a year ago.

I paid a grand for mine too and will never regret it. It's like being
annoyed at paying $600 for your DVD player four years ago, when they're $200
now (much less for a crap one). That's just the commercial reality when it
comes to consumer goods: they always get cheaper over time.

Agree 100%. I paid $1098 from the first batch to get sold here, and still
don't regret it, as this thing is worth every cent!

http://tonyspage.abock.de for some Topfield info including turning
those recordings into DVDs, adding features with the open source TAP
environment etc...
Id say this is very limited as there really arent many 80 gb versions left
about anymore. My guess is that they are dumping remaing stock, which there
would be very little of. Many of the DSE stores dont even have the 120 gb
version in stock.
