None of the fuel costs???? Horsepower takes fuel to make, whether
it's an 8 or whatever.

fairly narrowminded or troll (ah hes just driven a xr8 ute!)
after a while, you either want a fast, good handling car, or a fast, not so
good handling car with better comfort and practicality. people go either
way. not everyone can afford a cruiser for the week and a rocket for the
weekend. (one day though!)
its the people that pretend either a v8 or a turbo is faultless that are the
most amusing.
both are awesome for fairly similar but at the same time completely
different reasons.

additionally, the ecotec is a ****ing piece of shit in terms of performance.
a fantastic commuting engine, thats about it.

Yes & no.
Turbo 4's tend to be fitted to smaller cars, so the only time a turbo 4
is going to use the same amount of fuel is a long freeway drive.
Considering most Australians live & drive in the city, then most people
will use considerably less fuel in a turbo 4 car than a V8 one.

Ummm ... yeah, right. Considering that most V8's sold here are the "low
quality" manufacturers like Ford & Holden ...

I suspect you're doing almost all country km's, and his mate isn't.
Makes an enormous difference.
[As an aside, I'm quite surprised you can even still _get_ a V8 wagon!]

pumping losses include:
-compression work
-friction bore-piston, valve train, bearings
-oil circulation
-coolant circulation
-combustion inefficiency
clearly they are much higher for a v8

That would be my guess. Both cars get a regular thrashing round the city.
The worst I've got on my 45 litre tank is 350ks. And that is when I had
slicks on over a wet week.

*cough* Gen III *cough*. And the XR8 I am driving at the moment is less
than 12 months old and has been back to the dealer 3 times already.

Pretty much. Low quality also = low price. I'd still prefer an M5 to any
HSV though.

True that. Though I don't think a V8 is much better than a well setup 6.

I agree. But you go a lot faster in a turbo 4 for less fuel because you
aren't lugging around a shitload of weight. And that was my point.

Considering the topic is v8 or v6?, why would anyone even give a shit?

The last crap to come out of Japan, car-wise, would've been 30-odd years
ago ... what V6 powered cars do you commonly see going up against these
30yo Japanese cars? When you see things that actually aren't there, you
could see _anything_.
