Hi All,
My apologies if this question has already been asked. I have been doing
heaps of research on the 'net and still can't work out which plasma to
buy. It's all very confusing.
My questions are simple (hopefully);
1. Which is the best value for money plasma tv between $3k and $4k ?
2. What makes it best value ?
3. If you live in Sydney, do you know where the best place to buy is ?
That's it. Hope you can help take the confusion out of it for me !

Easy :
You should be looking at good SD plasmas (the price range in which you are looking).
My choice would be the NEC PX-42VR5. I have spent a long time comparing screens (although 50" ones), but I have seen this SD screen a few times and was very impressed with the quality of the display (infact I thought it was a HD screen the first time I saw it). Great SD screen and at $3750 with stand / bracket from Qsphere (http://www.qsphere.com.au/) (they are based in Dural - although an online retailer). I have had a bit of contact with them and found them very helpful. They also offer a 5year extended warranty (NEC = 1yr screen, 3yr 'the rest').
I like the Panasonic (TH-42PV30A) especially for its styling, but it seems to be harder to get a competitive price (try AVAction (http://www.avaction.com.au/) ). AVAction stock Pioneer / Panasonic / NEC but the prices are not quite so good.
The 42" NEC XM3 or XR3 'HD' screens are fantastic, but are about $1000 above your price range.
If you live anywhere near northern Sydney you could try Len Wallis Hi Fi to compare screens (they have a reasonable setup - although not using DVI for their HD panels last time I looked). Ring 1st to check what displays are being demoed. Their prices are NOT competitive so dont even bother asking.

I have the LG RT-42PX11, great plasma, $3500 at hardley normal with 4 years
interest free. It has twice the connection as the samsung and IMO better
picture quality

Yeah, you might.
A mate bought an LG plasa telly a little over 12 months ago that cost a
wisker under ten grand, and it came with a two year warranty and a free 17
inch lcd monitor.
It's a nice looking thing too, and pretty good to watch.
However, it burnt out it's "globe" a couple of months ago (or whatever it is
that they have), and they're only covered with a seperate *three month*
warranty.
$850 bucks to replace, and they've had the thing 6 weeks so far to do it.
Pretty fucking piss poor service on a ten grand tv set if you ask me.....

Are you suggesting that an 850 buck "consumable" expense on a 12 month old
item is acceptable?
I certainly don't. I also think that the replacement cost is bad enough, let
alone the joy in waiting a month and a half for them to do it.
Pretty average indeed imho....

possibly , did they watch it lots of hours , thats how bulbs work, use
''em and they burn out, on hours. and the bulbs should be about 1/2 the
price you mention , perhaps they were buying from the wrong place ?
as I said its a consumable

if indeed that is the case , do they live in the wildes and suffer at

That was apparently the price direct from LG.

Suburban Melbourne. The Hold up is LG's problem.

It patently obvious on this matter I have considerably more personal
and business experience in these matter, its not a car greasy boy ( so
you are way out of your depth) now you can either realise your sample is
very very small or admit you are quite possibly wrong , now dance for

You had best not get a digital projector... depending on your viewing
habits you would/could be up for that. It's all a matter of knowing BEFORE
you buy.

The wait time IS unacceptable IMO.

Indeed.
As I mentioned, it wasn't my telly, but that of a friend.
