Hi all,

I've recently got myself a 50" NEC plasma (which is fabulous) and have
coupled it with the Teac DV-B800 HD STB. I am however having trouble
getting the DVI connection to work. I'm confident I have the correct cable
(25 pin DVI-D) and have set the NEC under DVI setup option to: DVD/STB.
I've also set the STB to RGB (as per the manual to output signal to DVI).
What I get on the screen though is green and purple flickering and then a NO
SIGNAL display. I exchanged the cable suspecting it may be the problem
however the new cable gives me the same result.
I was advised by one source that perhaps the signal from the antenna may be
too strong and to see what happens if you loosen the connection temporarily.
This did not work. The Firmware in the STB says: S/W 1.00 Aug 6 2004 H/W
1.00 Aug 6 2004. Might this be the problem? Any help would be appreciated
as I specifically got the Teac box to take advantage of DVI. (No problems
with Component by the way)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I seem to remember having a similar problem on my 42" NEC when I
installed the TEAC HD STB. Did you remember to set the format for the
output on the STB? The NEC will take all except the PAL display on
mine. I can cycle through 720p, 576p and 1080i with display on each. On
the PAL setting, between the 576p and 1080i formats, the screen goes
blank and has the odd pattern on it similar to the one you describe.

Also, did you set up the menu option of the display to accept the
signal from the DVI cable. I remember that I set it up as component and
then switched later but it did not come on straight away. Go to the
menus and check the screen on OPTION1 (this is on my 42" so menus may
differ). Here you will find the inputs selections. Set RGB SELECT to
AUTO and then HD SELECT to 1080B. There is also a setup under the
OPTION2 menu for DVI SETUP but this is really only to set the black
level. This should be set to STB/DVD.

Lastly, there are two RGB locations on my display. The first is RGB/PC1
and this is only for the D-SUB input. Mine works when RGB/PC3 is the
selected input for DVI. To ensure it works I have now taken out the
Component leads as I read somewhere on the DBA Forums that this may be
a problem but I never confirmed that.

I too was frustrated with the setup of my DVB800 at first but the steps
above seemed to fix the problem. Now up and running with 1080 into my
42" in all its glory. Try it and see how you go. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply Zarbs. Indeed, my settings on the NEC are as you
state below. I have also cycled through all the formats and had unplugged
the component cables, but alas, still no luck.
After placing this post, I looked on the DBA forums and have since seen an
older thread which appears to suggest a possible fault with the STB. A
number of users report similar problems and had to return their boxes for
repair/replacement. I hope this is not necessary as now I have experienced
the joy of HD-TV, I'm not sure I could bear to be without it while it's in
for repairs.

Thanks for your reply Zarbs. I can confirm that all settings are as you
outline below. I have also tried cycling through the various output
settings to no avail. Since placing this post, I found an older thread on
the DBA forums which suggests this is a fairly common problem with the STB.
Looks like I may need to return it. :(
