does the type of dvd player you buy affect the image quality at all? If so, how might image quality be affected? Or is it just your tv that affects image quality?

Cheers.

Welcome to EYO...

In reference to your question...

Image quality is affected by many different factors, these are.

1. The type of connection from your DVD to TV. Composite = Bad, S-Video = OK, Component & RGB = Good.
2. The type of components in your DVD player. Cheaper components or all-in-one circuitry will reduce the quality, but not by as much as you may think.
3. Whether or not the signal goes through your receiver, ie is switched.
4. The length of the cables, it is generally accepted that signal loss will occur on long cables.
5. Your TV. If your TV has quality components in it you will generally get a better picture, the type of TV will also affect this. The old adage about 'you get what you pay for' is always true with TV's.
6. The picture format, PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC for instance. There are also new picture formats that go even higher still but you may need more specific playback equipment.

Hope this helps.
