View Full Version : Probably a stupid HD/SD question

Hi, there are different HD and SD channels for each station right? What
happens if you're watching the HD channel for whatever station, then the
next show is in SD, do you have to change to the SD channel for that
station? Or does the HD channel, just show it in SD?
Chris.

Doesn't that strike you as an absurd thing to have to do? It does to me.

Not really. They run a HD Demo the rest of the time.

Ahh, so is that why when I walk past the HD sets at the shops at lunch time
they're all playing the demo, cause there would be no HD on during the day.

What's stupid about that question? I bet Richard Alston couldn't have
answered it.

depends which station, channel 90 usually just shows the SD program on this
channel, I think it is up converted..channel 12 (10HD) do the same, so you
don't always have to change channels
this is in Sydney anyway

in short it varies.
ABC sometimes runs their HD channel, and sometimes they don't.
Nine always has an HD channel running - the content is sometimes just
upscaled SD

Are you sure it's even upscaled? I seem to recall its the same VPID/APID
(ie video and audio) as the SD channel. Yes/no?

During the cricket, yes, during "interactive" events (Pompeii special with 2
channels comes to mind), not really (it is another SD channel instead),
other times, no.

my HD box identifys channel 90 as HD (most of the time), even when it's
showing old crap that we know is not HD. the only time it says 90 is SD is
when Nine are doing things such as the cricket where they need the bandwidth
for other purposes
