The weirdest thing is happening to my .jpg photos. I have a Fuji Finepix S602 Pro. They all open ok into PSP9, and look fine when I use the Filmstrip view in XP. Then, when I return to them a week or two later, on one or two half the picture has shifted and the colourcast seems to have changed. It happens only on a few, but the number grows the longer I leave them. It's almost as if they are being infected one by one! It happens on those I have edited - usually with one-stop photo fix - but also on those I haven't touched. I attach an example to show what I mean: Pic 1 is the original; Pic 2 has been corrupted. (I have compressed them for posting here.) If anyone can suggest what the problem is, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

. . . I used one-stop photo fix on the original, which is why Pic 2 is brighter. But that was the only difference - otherwise, it was fine once I'd done it. The corruption happened later.

Well, it's been here over three weeks. Guess I'm going to have to go elsewhere for a solution! Sorry I've wasted my time and yours.

Perhaps you'll never read this, but the answer is that no-one knows the answer.

However, file corruption is symptomatic of:

1. Death signs of storage device.
2. Bad interface between storage devices.

(storage devices can be media cards, hard drives, computer memory, etc)

The only time I have had something similar happen was when I pulled a smartmedia card out of a card reader while it was still being accessed. That would fall into category 2.

Thanks, Ed - it's nice to get a response. I'm grateful for your trouble, but it doesn't really apply to me, since the photos were fine on the card: the corruption happened when they were on my HDD. I've since read something about a virus or worm that attacks PSP and corrupts files, and I've dowloaded a patch from Jasc. I hope that that will fix it and it won't happen again. I've just got to accept that the pictures that were attacked are unrecoverable, I guess. But thanks again.

Have you fixed this problem? My stepdad is having the same problem and I'm trying to find a fix. If you were able to fix it, please let me know what steps you took.

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, it now seems to be fixed. You need a Microsoft patch from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6A63AB9C-DF12-4D41-933C-BE590FEAA05A&displaylang=en (One continuous line)

Instructions for installation can be found here:

http://www.jasc.com/support/kb/viewresult.asp?Aid=1637&kb=ALL&QueryID=1352817&AN=ALL0074 (One continuous line)

You also need psp901en.exe and psp9gdiplus.exe from here:

http://ftp.jasc.com/pub/Update/

This worked for me, and (so far) no further files have been corrupted. Let me know how you get on!
