Blow reveals the riveting inside story of George Jung’s rise and fall – of how one typical American boy became Pablo Escobar’s right-hand man, and used every last bit of his ingenuity, ambition, courage and savvy only to blow all of his dreams on greed.
On March 20, 2002 Roadshow Entertainment presents BLOW on DVD starring Johnny Depp as Jung, Directed by Ted Demme from a screenplay by David McKenna and Nick Cassavetes and based on Bruce Porter’s non-fiction book of the same name. BLOW also stars Penelope Cruz,, Ray Liotta, Paul Reubens and Australian Golden Globe winner, Rachael Griffiths.
“This is an amazingly tragic story, yet it’s also exciting, sexy and fun because the backdrop is always sex, drugs and rock n’ roll, observes Demme.
BLOW on DVD is jam packed with special features including interviews with George Jung at Federal Correctional Institute in Otisville where he is still serving his sentence until 2014 plus an optional film commentary with Director Demme and Jung.
Also featured are two documentaries “Lost Paradise: Cocaine’s impact on Colombia” which provides a political and social history. Plus “Addiction: Body and Soul” features medical practitioners, psychologists and addicts opinions on addiction and the human body’s reaction to cocaine.
There are also 10 deleted scenes from the film with optional commentary from Ted Demme and a behind the scenes on set video diary by Ted Demme’s which captures cast and crew preparing for scenes including a kiss between Demme and Depp!
Other special features include a video music clip by Nikki Cost – “Push and Pull’, cast and crew biographies and a theatrical trailer.
Shot on location in Southern California and Mexico, Demme and producer Joel Stillerman captured several different periods in US history and culture – from the 50’s, right through to 80’s. With each period accompanied by a an amazing soundtrack including songs by The Rolling Stones, Booker T and MG’s, Cream and Manfred Mann.
“I wanted this to be a really unique-looking film…I wanted it to have attitude, because George Jung certainly did” said Demme on the rich visual look and sound of the film.
On playing the role of George Jung Depp said” I hope that people see that he’s just a human being who got caught up in something bad. Right now,, he won’t get out of prison until he’s 72. Other people involved in the same bust got two to three years. I think he’s paid his debt. One thing is for sure: he’ll never go back to this crazy life”.
BLOW features widescreen presentation, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, Dolby 2.0, Greek subtitles and English subtitles for the hearing impaired.
BLOW rated MA 15+, runs for 118minutes, and is also available to rent on video.
