I am trying to connect my DVD player to a very old TV. The TV cannot receive UHF. I have tried a couple of RF modulators (JB, Dick Smith, Tandy), but all output to UHF channels.
I have found a couple of links to VHF RF Modulators, but they are interstate, and I'd rather try and get one locally.
(i) anyone know that a VHF RF modulator, with output to channel 0 or 1 works with DVD players and old TVs
(ii) able to purchase in Melbourne?
Thanks,
Frank

Yep, it is called a VCR... :PI :dD
Sorry, couldn't help myself... seriously though, how much are you looking at for the RF Modulator?? An old mono VCR would be worth maybe $50 tops, most VHS VCRs use channel 0 or 1 as an output.
Also I know JB Hifi were selling the RF modulators but I think they wanted drug money for them...
Good luck...
ps. Welcome to EYO...

g'day redbears,
JB/Dick Smith/Tandy sell UHF modulator - I am looking for a VHF RF modulator. Tried all of them, none worked, & I was able to return them all.
All new VCRs broadcast on UHF frequencies.
I'd rather like to buy a new VCR to work with my old TV. Although it would work, an old VCR should do the trick. My old VCR was 23yrs old before it died couple of weeks ago.
Quoted price from wagner.com.au (qld) was $80 including postage and handling, which seems way too much.
The only other place I tried yesterday was radioparts, again, only sells UHF modulator. None output to channel 0 or 1. No modern VCRs output to these channels either.
thanks

My old Sharp VCR from '88 output to 0 or 1. Maybe buying one of these is the go... however TV's are very cheap these days, maybe you could consider upgrading??
Goodluck

If your 23YO VCR outputs to ch 1 or 0, why not use that?
No reason why u can't upgrade to a new VCR as well, but of course, it means u have 2 VCRs in your cabinet.
I presume something went wrong with the tape path, or some other mechanical fault, as usually happens. Obviously, if it's a tuning issue, then you're outta luck.
If you're any good with electronics, and your old VCR did have a tuning issue, why not look around on the side of the road for a dead VCR? Chances are, it'll be a mechanical fault, and u can remove the modulator from that. (If you see a switch at the back that sets it to Ch 1 or 0, you're in! Or, try an old games console.
Wheelers Hill are having a hard rubbish collection at the moment, and I scored a good dryer a couple of days ago!!
Bayside council have info on their hard rubbish collections on their website, if you live nearer to there.
Good luck!
PS: a new TV may be in order, what better reason to get one?:D
