Hi All,

Well, after some interesting advice, I finally bought my plasma tv.
Got a Sony HD 42" unit - probably much to many people's disgust.
Still, great picture and I'm happy with it so far.

Now, I'm not a complete dummy when it comes to connecting these things
up but I'm kinda getting confused witht he best set-up arrangements.

Should I use DVI, S-video, component, etc ?

Which is best ?

How do I get my 8 year old VCR to record HD tv when the inputs and
outputs on the VCR are only RCA connectors ?

I have a really good AMP with S-video, component, etc video in's and
out's ? Still trying to work out how I can use this to be the focal
point for all video/audio going in and out.

Any good web pages around to help me out ?

Cheers

Sonny

If the source device has DVI use that (should give the best quality picture)
2nd choice is component,
3rd choice is S-video,
last and worst quality is composite.

You can't. VHS has no where near the video bandwidth capability to record
HD. VHS is about 250 or so lines of resolution and is low definition. If
your STB allows simultaneous output of SD and HD video you can watch HD
whilst recording it on the VCR via the RCA sockets. Otherwise (most) STBs
only output either SD or HD which isn't a problem if you don't want to watch
the program in HD and record the same program in SD.

Using component video inputs and outputs will give you the best video
switching options with this amplfier.

Congratulations! I'm jealous - partly because my Hitachi HD PDP is 5 inches
smaller and cost thousands more over 3 years ago. Still no burn in or brightness
issues so it still looks fantastic.

You basically plug all video sources into the amp and run one video cable to the
display. You need an amp that will upconvert to your chosen output type though,
which is something my amp doesn't do so I have two video cables going to the TV:
one component cable for DVD and STB, and one composite cable for xbox and VCR.

I suggest you try all video cable types to see which one results in the best
picture. Usually DVI will be best, but you may find component is better.
