Hi all,

a friend of mine who knows very little about electronic things was sold
a telefunken vcr/dvd player and a set of surround speakers. The dvd
player does the DD/DTS decoding and has digital audio out (coax and
optical).

However the speakers all connect up the the sub woofer which also has
inputs. the only inputs it takes is either stereo analogue for 5/6
channel analogue (a bit like the output one would get from a SACD/DVD-A
player).

i cant see any possible way to connec the dvdp layer to the inputs on
the sub woofer. i also cant really imagine how one would convert digital
audio to analogue without spending more money than the dvd player and
speakers are worth.

does anyone know of such a cheapo device or have any suggestions?

cheers

Most of these el-cheapo systems work the same way, People buy them, and
convice themselves that they have 5.1 audio. And strangly enough , there
happy.
and all for $129.

As you've discovered, you can't without buying a DVD player that does DD/DTS
decoding on board. Buying a separate DAC would be ludicrous for a $200
system. Just look for a DVD player with the 6 RCA plugs on the back, plenty
of cheapies do it.
