I have a UEC Foxtel box running through a Yamaha amp into a LG 111cm rear
projection TV. (I'll never by rear projection again, but I'm stuck with it
for the time being).

A couple of questions.

1. What is the best way to hook up my Foxtel box to my TV? I currently run
the RGB (the yellow, white & red) cables from the box to the back of my amp.
As does my digital set top box, xbox and DVD player. All then run from the
monitor out of my amp to the AV1 of the TV, which is a RGB input. I have a
choice of inputs, Svideo, Scart, RGB and Component, but the amp only run RGB
from the monitor out. What would be the best way to set this up, or is how
I have it ok? This way allows me to switch all video and audio through the
amp with the flick of one button.

2. I've run a SPIF (the orange digital audio cable) from the UEC box to my
amp. It only has one input for digital sound to support the SPIF cable, the
other two are fibre optic inputs. Is there a fancy cable that goes from
SPIF to fibre optic so I can utilise the unused fibre optic inputs on the
amp as neither my digital set top box or UEC Foxtel box have fibre optic
outputs.

I hope that explains my question well enough. Basically I want to optimise
the digital sound of bot FTA and Fox, and ensure I'm getting as good a
picture (is that correct English) as I can get, onto my RP TV.

Thanks
Damo

Strictly speaking running straight from foxtel to TV will give the best
results, but considering foxtel's relatively low quality, using your amp to
switch is more practical. RGB is the way to go, either using SCART, or a
SCART to RCA plug, depending on what your amp uses.

Yup, there is: http://www.hometheatre.net.au/optical_digital.htm Not sure
whether this a good price or not for one though.
