Just seen this here: http://www.dpanda.com.au/
Looks good and the DVI attracted me.
Anybody know anything about it?
I have an early strong 5200 that needs replacing now I have a HD projector.
It served me well and the picture quality was good.
Cheers

Sorry, even at that reduced RRP, HD is still too expensive to be worrying
about IMO.
I'll stick to SD until Hi-Definition doesn't = Hi-Price.
The only advantage I can see with this unit is it's simultaneous SD & HD
output, but it still doesn't warrant that price.
There is still some time to go yet I think before HD will be attractive, and
I consider that Australian HD doesn't warrant the expense of these current
HD boxes.
Sorry for the cynicism, but I just fail to see why what is little more than
a chip change in a 3rd gen SD box, has to cost and arm and a leg. Perhaps
they can write it off with supply and demand arguments, but even if that's
the real truth of the matter, it's too expensive for average Joe, and that's
the commercial reality.

I would contest those that have the equipment to dispaly a HD signal
natively are not your "average Joe". Thus they have no need of a HD
receiver.

Couldn't agree more. I'd also ad that true HD is still a niche market here
at the moment (face it - SD DTV is still a niche market here - 658000
receivers for however many million TV's in the country is a joke) & as such,
there's no push to drive down prices or drive up content.

And by the same token, if you can afford a fairly high resolution projector,
600 bucks isn't too bad for such a great picture. The HD STBs haven't
dropped in price much though. That's about what I paid for my DGTEC 2000a
many moons ago, when it was the only one available.

Or you could buy the Teac HD box with DVI for around $399 retail :)
