A tryout for a possible game: movie taglines. Marketing ploys or succinct encapsulations of a movie? Can a film really be neatly summarized in a few catchy words? A phrase? Most films have a tagline (some even have several) - do you remember them? Is there something about one that just suggests a movie? Some films have clever, even perfect taglines: there may even be an art in it. Here are some taglines to start off, all from fairly well known films: what films are they from?

* “Between Heaven and Hell there’s always Hollywood!”

* “This Christmas, Santa’s got a brand new bag.”

* “This is the weekend they didn’t play golf."

If answering maybe quote the respective tagline and answer with the film title. For scoring and possible updates with new taglines, 'll see how the game goes. :)

“They’ll never get caught. They’re on a mission from God.”

The Blues Brothers

“When there’s no more room in Hell, the Dead will walk the Earth.”

Dawn of the Dead

“Being the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are rape, ultra-violence and Beethoven.”

A Clockwork Orange

“Five criminals. One lineup. No coincidence.”

The Usual Suspects

“In space no-one can hear you scream.”

Alien

Five of my favourite movies of all time actually. :D

Not sure on all of these but I'll have a crack

* “This Christmas, Santa’s got a brand new bag.”
Bad Santa

* “Between Heaven and Hell there’s always Hollywood!”
Meet Joe Black

Hi Davdster: good tries but......nope on both. Bad Santa's tagline is "He doesn't care if you're naughty or nice." The one in the game may be tricky...the film doesn't have much to do with Christmas really, this tagline I think was advance promo based around the film's intended US release date.

“For three men the Civil War wasn’t Hell. It was practice.”
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

“You don’t assign him to murder cases. You just turn him loose.”
Dirty Harry

“Loyalty is bought, betrayal is a way of life.”
Ronin

“The knock at the door meant the birth of one man and the death of seven others.”
I can't think of the name, and it's bugging me. I think it's an old movie from the 70s. Arrrgh I'm hurting my brain!

Right: all but three solved from the first tryout batch. Thought I'd try a few more out. Again from well known films (well, one lesser known personal favourite but the line fits the film and title so nicely: and one somewhat oldie):

* “This is the weekend they didn’t play golf."

* “Between Heaven and Hell there’s always Hollywood!”

* “This Christmas, Santa’s got a brand new bag.”

* “It was the Deltas against the rules…the rules lost.”

* “It’s the land of hospitality…unless you don’t belong.”

* “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.”

* “A man went looking for America and couldn’t find it anywhere.”

* “Somewhere in the Universe, there must be something better than Man!”

* “Sister, sister, oh so fair, why is there blood all over your hair?”

* “Leave your inhibitions at the door.”

* “Man is the warmest place to hide.”

* “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…” :rolling:

Again: If answering maybe quote the respective tagline and answer with the film title. For scoring and more updates with new taglines, 'll see how the game evolves. :)

* “Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.”

Aghh!!! I can't believe I almost missed this quote!
From the movie sitting number 3 on my top 10 list,
Shawshank Redemption

It's full of good quotes, but another I love is
"Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane."

Bump.

I'm not letting the first decent game for a while get lost under the how do you feel and what did you eat threads. ;)

Come on peoples, have a crack at some! :)

“This Christmas, Santa’s got a brand new bag.”

The Santa Clause?

Right on all others, but not this one. Davdster had a stab at it before: the film's actually nothing to do with Christmas or Santa. There's a famous soul music song this pre-cinema release tagline is probably spun on. I'll add a clue in the update (as I may do for those taglines that linger unguessed).

An update with some new taglines (again fairly well known films, though not necessarily all of them recent) added to those remaining unsolved:

* “This is the weekend they didn’t play golf.”
CLUE: banjo

* “Between Heaven and Hell there’s always Hollywood!”

* “This Christmas, Santa’s got a brand new bag.”
CLUE: It ain’t foxy…

* “It’s the land of hospitality…unless you don’t belong.”

* “A man went looking for America and couldn’t find it anywhere.”

* “Somewhere in the Universe, there must be something better than man!”

* “Sister, sister, oh so fair, why is there blood all over your hair?”

* “Everyone has one special thing.”

* “Once in a lifetime comes a motion picture that makes you feel like falling in love all over again. This is not that movie.”

* “Train them! Excite them! Arm them!...Then turn them loose on the Nazis!”

Again: If answering maybe quote the respective tagline and answer with the film title.
