I have read the V8 5.7 Commodore consumption average from 9ltrs/100kms to 19
ltrs per 100 k's. I know it is how you drive it and car mags aren't exactly
normal so what is the figure you get with the motor all you petrol heads?
(I get about 12ltrs from my v6)

I dont have a 5.7, but the HEC 5.0 holden holden motor (94 VR 4spd Auto).
City driving (peak hour) 16 litres per 100 KM normal usuage.
City driving (50%) & (50% freeway) 13-14 litres per 100 KM.
Putting the footdown the worst I got was 18 per 100 km's.
On a trip from Melb to Brisbane 9 litres per 100KM's

My Hiace gets 390kms (with aircon on) per 65 litres! Thats 16.7 litres per
100kms for a 2.4 litre. Great stuff eh. Best we can get out of this van is
460kms in Winter (no A/c) out of a tankful which is 14.1 litres per 100km.
Gimme a V8 to power this would ya.

I get 9l/100 if I'm highway driving and if I put in 60L and do my day
to day work travel, I'll get around 450 a tank in Sydney driving.
It's touch and go compared to the economy of the 4.0 EF Ghia that it
replaced, shitloads more power and fun tho. ;)

Rod.

A mate has a V8 Calias that replaced a V6 Acclaim, he says the V8 use
"slightly more" fuel than the V6.
On a trip last year to Echuca towing a trailer with a small car on it
the trip computer was showing an average of 10.0lts/100klms at 100kph
which is excellent.

I can get around 9.8L/100k's out of my calais probably even better once
I get the LS1 edited PCM fitted. :-)

my vz ss ute gets 11-12l/100 for highway, around 17-18 for average traffic,
jakcs up to 25l/100 or so if i go a whole tank of crawl speed traffic
(rare). according to my little logbook, ive been averaging between
15-16l/100 over the last 4 months.
get an ls1edit and expect all figures to drop by 2-4l/100 depending on how
well its done, and how you get them to set fuel tables etc.

From autospeed.com
"Unfortunately - and this is by far the worst aspect of the car - that bent
eight donk drinks fuel like dog slurps water out of a bowl. Sure, you might
be able to forgive 17-odd litres per 100km consumption while you're fanging
it, but - even during light-footed urban saunters - you won't get better
than 16.5-litres per 100 clicks."
Just makes it sound really bad.

Sure it does its typical journolism. most of the cars probably bearly
run it. If I can get around 9.8L/100k's on my V8 VY2 Calais and Dazza's
mate getting 10L per 100k's towing a trailer with a car on it. Its not
hard to get decent fuel consumpsion from a V8 thats almost 5.7 litres in
capacity.

7L/100km short trips (<5km)
Stuff all on highway, around 4L per 100km, at 90-100kph top speed.
1.3litre engine, premium fuel. You tell me it's not worth a few cents extra
per litre.
370km to 26 litres is pretty good economy.
Yet on 91 octane, it hovers around 10L/100km.

Dan,
Where'd you get the LS1 edit done? I think you mentioned earlier that you got
a mail order job?

I get 17-19L/100Km around town. Haven't done a long trip with the SS yet.

Makes the journo sound like a complete dickhead if he thinks the difference
between fanging and conservative driving is around half a litre per 100km's
:)

I'm currently averaging about 10.5, mainly highway, with some suburbia
thrown in. Pure highway will return about 9L/100.
I'm getting better economy out of the 5.7 than my old EF XR6. You could
say I'm happy.

Manual or auto SS?
The mates Calais doesn't use that much towing an almost 2 tonne boat,
you must have a very heavy right foot.

Auto. That's the indicated consumption. I suppose I should calculate it as I
here that the trip computer tends to overestimate a bit. Yes, I do have a
heavy right foot!
