Ok working in AV retail, i've been fiddling around alot with SD, HD
plasmas, boxes, different cables, connections, lcd tv's.
Things that get to me,
HD vs SD plasmas, in comparing two plasmas, both using the same boxes
on DVI, using the HDtv channels, there's a price difference of roughly
$2k between the two, yet image quality on just about every program is
barely noticeable. Ok things like finer text and other small things are
slightly clear, otherwise both pictures look the same. Most customers
when showed a comparison, can't even tell the difference. My
theory/explanation is quite simply, australias HD broastcast is
rubbish. Channel 7's HD demo is disappointing, why on earth does 7 only
use 576p. Other things is the blocking, obvious digital artifacts, etc.
Why? Watching the fly around through sydney during the night, there is
what appears to be a browny grain during the shots.
On lcd tv's, they really make the poorness of some digital broadcasts
stand out.
One thing I notice on many a tv's, especially the rear - pro's is this
ghosting around objects, LG have an expensive HD equipped rear pro,
looking closely you can see a translucent outline around objects.
