Hi, with all the talk about HD-SD stb's in here at the moment, I thought
I would ask a couple of questions of my own. I am currently getting all
my tv through an optus set top box which plugs into my RP tv by RCA
input. If I was to buy a SD or HD stb, and plug Optus box into it then
run it through YPbPr input on the tv, will I get a better picture? Optus
tech said it will make no difference as they do all the filtering of the
signal.

Also, when I first bought the tv, I hooked my dvd player up to it
through the YPbPr inputs (both the tv & dvd player have them)but was
getting no signal. I then plugged into the YCbCr inputs on the tv, and
it all works. What is the story there?

IMHO Use your AV reciever to do the switching

No. It won't output better than what it inputs. High end
receivers will do this as they will upscale the picture
quality. Do a search on "Farouja" or "Faroudja" depends how
they spell it ;-)

One is component the other is RGB. DVD players output
component. Yes I know they buggered up th colour coding by
using the same colours and hence the confusion.

The way the quality goes is:
Worst: Composite (single yellow RCS)
"S" Video (4 pin single cable)
Best Component or RGB (3 RCA Red, Green, Blue RCA or RGB via
SCART )

And as you have seen Component and RGB are not compatible.
Europeans use scart (RGB) Yanks and Japs use component as a
rough guide. Usually Svid is quite adequate for most
people. But as you probably know it is all changing again.
With SD and HD formats and with HDMI and DVI connectors out
now.

Confused yet? Give it time you soon will be :-)
