I am trying to find a song from the 60's or 70's era that i thought was called "Melting Pot." the lyrics of this song went.... 'What we need is a great big melting pot, big enough to take the world and all it got, and churn out multi coloured children......" Can someone tell me who sang it and what is the title of this song.http://forums.eyo.com.au/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=44#

Oooh, I know the song you're talking about.
Damn, I'll have to have a think about that one.

EDIT: The song is called "Melting Pot", but the original singers aren't Boyzone. As if.
Culture club apparently covered it too.
Still looking.

I think it is called Melting Pot, and sung by Boyzone.

Boyzone wern't around in the 60's or 70's. There was a band called Blue Mink in the late 60's that did a song called Melting Pot but the lyrics don't match.

Here are the lyrics by Blue Mink

Take a pinch of white man
Wrap him up in black skin
Add a touch of blue blood
And a little bitty bit of red Indian boy
Oh like a Curly Latin kinkies
Oh Lordy, Lordy, mixed with yellow Chinkees, yeah
You know you lump it all together
And you got a recipe for a get along scene
Oh what a beautiful dream
If it could only come true, you know, you know

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough enough enough to take
The world and all its got And keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee coloured people by the score

Rabbis and the friars
Vishnus and the gurus
We got the Beatles or the Sun God
Well it really doesn't matter what religion you choose
And be thankful little Mrs. Graceful
You know that livin' could be tasteful
We should all get together in a lovin machine
I think I'll call up the queen
It' s only fair that she knows, you know, you know

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough enough enough to take
The world and all its got And keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee coloured people by the score

Blue Mink are the original singers.
Still just trying to find original lyrics.
Boyzone probably modified them to make them rad, or bad, or righteous or something. :rolling:

EDIT: They're the original Lyrics Eilis. They've been modified down the line. The chorus is different by artists who've covered it.

I think it is called Melting Pot, and sung by Boyzone.
I googled it and it would seem it's done a few covers. Culture Club did a version of it as well.

These are the lyrics I found

Melting Pot - Culture Club

Take a pinch of white man
Wrap him up in black skin
Add a touch of blue blood
And a little bitty bit of red indian boy
Oh like a curly latin kinkies
Oh lordy, lordy, mixed with yellow chinkees, yeah
You know you lump it all together
And you got a recipe for a get along scene
Oh what a beautiful dream
If it could only come true, you know, you know

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough enough enough to take
The world and all itís got
And keep it stirring for
A hundred years or more
And turn out coffee coloured people by the score

Rabbis and the friars
Vishnus and the gurus
We got the beatles or the sun god
Well it really doesnít matter
What religion you choose
And be thankful little mrs. graceful
You know that liviní could be tasteful
We should all get together in a lovin machine
I think Iíll call up the queen

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough enough enough to take
The world and all itís got

It was covered by someone else, as the 'multi-coloured children' part rings a bell. Still around the 70's era though.

Quote:"Back in the 70's Madeline Bell (Blue Mink) sang of her "Melting PotÖ. big enough for the world and all it's got".

Eve Graham from The New Seekers was supposed to sing lead in Blue Mink, but didn't. Madeline Bell ended up singing lead.
Eve Graham went on to record the track with The New Seekers, which is probably the version I have heard.
It's on the 'Together' album.
