America's hottest new comedy star, takes centre stage in his first leading role brought to you by the directors of American Pie and the producer of The Mummy.
Based on 'Heaven Can Wait", Warren Beatty's hit film of the 70's, this is a totally hilarious new take on the out-of-body experience.
Rock is Lance Burton, a hip, smart talking New York bike courier and amateur stand-up comedian- but his bike has just had a run in with a semi trailer. Now Barton is knocking on Heavens door only to find that they're not ready for him.
It isn't his time yet. So Burton has to go back down to earth... but in a new body.

Now this skinny, wise-ass brother is inhabiting the body of a powerful, podgy, white, middle aged billionaire. And even though his new life isn't always black and white, it is always out of control.

Also starring REGINA KING ("Jerry Maguire"), MARK ADDY("The Full Monty"), EUGENE LEVY ("American Pie"), and CHAZZ PALMINTERI ("Analyze This").
Featuring a hit soundtrack including Lauryn Hill, DMX and Mystikal.

AUDIO/VISUAL

Down To Earth has a Dolby Digital 2.0 track and a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track.
I reviewed the movie using the Dolby Digital 5.1 track and would say that it is good overall.
Audio is very strong from the front sound stage with the speech being very clear and in sync.
The rears are used sparingly and do provide the occasional rear effect, but don't really make much of an impact during this movie.
The parts of the movie that feature the hip hop orientated music are about the only times that the sub really comes into play.

Down To Earth has an aspect of 1.85:1 widescreen and is 16:9 enhanced. The cover does indicate that it's 2.35:1, but it's not the case with this DVD.
I thought that the video transfer was pretty good overall.
Colours were clean and bright and there were no problems with the various flesh tones, shadow detail or blacks.
The image was mostly sharp and provided some good detail. The transfer is mostly clean and free from marks and blemishes. Purists may notice some very fine specs but honestly, they don't really cause a problem and I think I only saw them because I was looking for them.

EXTRA FEATURES

Trailer -
This 2.34 minute trailer is presented in widescreen with Dolby Digital 2.0 audio.
Standard stuff, and sells the movie well enough.
Down To Earth: A Look Inside -
This is a mix of major cast and crew talking about the movie including things such as where the original idea of the movie came from and as well as a touch of back slapping thrown in for good measure.
It features clips from the movie as well as stuff from behind the scenes.
It runs for 10.05 mins, is full screen (clips from the movie are in widescreen) with Dolby Stereo sound.

OVERALL

Down to earth is an enjoyable movie, but hardly had me rolling on the floor in fits of laughter.
There are some very funny moments though, but they unfortunately don't happen often enough.
Fans of Chris Rock will enjoy this, but I'm not so sure about others though.
This is definitely a rental movie and is worth a spin, but I felt that it's one of those movies where you see all the funny bits in the trailer.
The DVD itself has a video transfer that is of a very good quality and audio that is good and does its job, but only really becomes active when the hip-hop style music pops up.
Extra features are light on and are nothing to write home about.
I still recommend seeing it can be amusing at times and provides a few good laughs.
Down To Earth was released on Feb 6th and has a RRP of $39.95.
