Hey guys

I was wondering is it possible to make full size posters just from a dvd sleave.. Reason is i would like to make a few full size horror posters for myself. I have been told that if ya scan teh dvd sleave at 1200 dpi & then use photoshop & bring it back down to 300dpi & then save it to pc. Then ya open up another page saying 20inches x 30inches & paste it to that it should work out. I have tryed it but i can only scan the sleaves at 720dpi the damm scanner wont go any higher than that. So has anyone else know what i can do.. Thanks

Please pm me or leave a message if u have the time to reply..

Thanks

If you scan it at 1200dpi and then reduce the resolution to 300dpi then your printable image will be 4x the width and 4x the height - or 16x as big as it was originally, logically the size you want the poster. Of course you have to contend with the fact the sleeve was probably only printed in 600dpi to begin with, making your poster 150dpi...

Can't see how you can get around that one without using another scanner: maybe Snap printing or somesuch have some cheap facilities you can use? Or if you're at a uni, most Student Unions have some resources you can call upon. Otherwise you're pretty much screwed unless you buy a better scanner.

Beetle is right, the sleeve itself is probably only printed at 600 dpi so there's not much point in scanning at 1200 dpi resolution.

If you take a 600 dpi scan (of a 5" x 7" picture) and blow it up to 20" x 28" size, you effectively reduce your resolution to 150 dpi for the poster. That will actually not look all that terrible but if you want to improve it take the original 600 dpi scan and using PhotoShop increase the resolution to 1200 dpi or greater (note: the file size will be pretty big). PhotoShop uses pretty good interpolation algorithms for increasing resolution so the image quality will be better than just blowing it up at the printers. Then you can print out the image at your local Rabbit photo or Snap or wherever -- poster size isn't all that cheap.
