      Everything is offensive to someone...

What sort of topics are you looking for? Also, do they have to be... what's the words... well structured for a wider audience, or does opinionated ramblings meet the criteria you're looking for? If you make money on this, are there plans to share the joy down the line?

Why would anyone contribute content under such overt guidelines. The site has everything to gain and the poster has nothing to gain.

I think the intention of this new version of forum software is to be a CMS where you would post news articles etc and the discussion is meant to flow through to the forum, I think they are trying to get the functionality of Joomla/Drupal with something more advanced than Wordpress style commenting to try and make it an all in one package, not sure it fits the situation here and NSU might be asking more out of interest than anything else, or for another project maybe, could be a good solution for the right type of site where you wanted news and forums more closely integrated, it's probably still a bit buggy for anything serious though

The CMS is the part of the software I have been forced to get with the new version, meaning bundled software, yet we need to pay more. It is here, so I am asking someone who wishes to post. The condition is not nice, because after years of operating the forums, I know there is no point argueing over stuff. Saying the Admin has the final say, in the front, perhaps is easier than spending the time discuss somethin later on.

As for the interest gained from the forums and sites. I am sorry to tell you, if you consider Eyo as the owner, Eyo has gained very little out of the forums in the past and I believe the situation will not change anytime soon.

      1) Eyo has invested two dedicated servers just for the forums.
      2) Eyo has provided bandwidth and hosting for the forums for all these years.
      3) Eyo pays each year for the software as part of getting the newer, secure version.
      4) Eyo just paid $250US for the new version, because of concerning over security of the forums.
      5) I typically stayed in the office until 11pm etc to make the software update, database maintainence happening.

Out of all these, I think most forum members, do not even know what Eyo does.

If one considers the forum investment as part of the promotion method, I am afraid this is a very bad investment. Why don't I close the forums? because there are members like you guys who hang here still. It is also not easy to make the decision because the Admins and Mods have spent so much their own time on the forums.

The same goes for the article poster as the forums posters. If one does not mind to contributor, be it in a thread, or an article, you are welcome.

if the forums were also a support channel for your shop and products then new products, news, FAQ subjects etc would get posted on the front page and any discussion about that product or service would flow through to the forums, I can see that this could be useful and probably the kind of situation they had in mind for this new version software but does need to be driven and would require resources to do that

I would agree that most don't know what EYO is about and how the forums aren't really connected, recently I had someone on another forum attacking me as I was supposedly having a go at his product becuase I woked for EYO and was his competitor trying to discredit the product he was selling (that was his interpretation anyway) so that EYO could benefit, go figure

To be honest, until I read what you have said, I have not even thought anything about getting this section to be useful for Eyo. Over the years, I can't recall me using the forums to promote Eyo's products other than the Eyo logo.

there have been a few mentions of EYO products over the years, moreso long ago than anything recent, I laughed at the guy that was accusing me of working for and promoting EYO product, I invited him to spend time reading my posts or to even contact you and ask if in any doubt, he fizzled out and gave up in the end, he really just made a goose out of himself and probably looked worse in the eyes of his own customers the way he was carrying on

this front end could be good for business if you wanted to add product reviews or similar, would need to be tied into your site a bit more though so your customers were actually aware, I'm not really familiar enough with your business to know if that's appropriate or what you have in mind for the business, it's what I would want to do if running an online business though

Speaking if which, the logo is still absent. Are you considering replacing the vbulliton logo with the Eyo one? Personally, I think you should.

I will, just I have not got around to that part.
I will portray that as a banner instead of the forums logo though.

It is not my style to attack the competitors, especially in the public. That usually makes one look bad. A lot has changed regarding online business. Some people would post as a customer of their company, or the company they work for. Adding to that, viral marketing is now regarded as a normal business activity, which I have not got around to accept the concept of "fakeness".

The Eyo front end is basically a CMS, or it is quite easy to add the function as a CMS. The problem is the contents. The new products come out too quickly to make proper contents. Incorrect information posted will cause more problem than the benefit it can provide.

yeah I don't think you could just add products like you have on the front page of EYO, product reviews though may be appropriate, doesn't work for all product types though as some stuff is just too generic to warrant the effort, things like media players are good candidates for this kind of thing

There are also some products that are crap but being sold because they're profitable, but would receive negative attention on such a site.

Hard drives would be a big concern in that area for NSU. The best hard drives on the market ATM (and have been so for the last few years) are Samsung, and they're also the cheapest. So a site that delved into that would no doubt cannibalise his profits in that area.

Ah, you're having a go at setting up a front page after all, NSu. Even more work for you. As if you needed it.

Are there any copyright concerns when people quote articles in part or in full?

I think it's probably a good idea to post topics of general interest that may cause reasoned discussion among others on the forum.

Although when I tried this some arrogant prick with an over inflated view of his own place in the scheme of things, called me an Idiot...

I chose to ignore the moron because it was probably an honestly held, though entirely erroneous opinion.

The conversation is within bounds so far. You can't outlaw calling someone an idiot on the internet. That's sacrilege!

Anyway. Its only libellous when its false.
