I received this email recently from an ex-RAAF friend. I did a search to see if it was a hoax (sad isn't it) and it seems to be okay. Here's a site that has gone to way too much trouble for a hoax: http://oceanskykhaki.blogspot.com/

Whether you support the "war on terror" in Afghanistan or not, give a thought to our Aussie soldiers doing it tough over there this Christmas.

As you know, the Festive Season is quickly closing on us and it is asked that you spare a thought for our soldiers serving our country in harm's way in Afghanistan.

Perhaps you may wish to send a soldier a care package. The idea behind this is that some troops over in Afghanistan may not have family who are able to send them packages with things they may need or things that make their time over there just that tiny bit easier. There may also just be a soldier who is finding their time over there difficult and just needs a bit of cheering up. It'll get given to whoever needs it most.

To send a care package to an Australian Soldier in Afghanistan, you need to purchase a "BM" size box (weighs 175g itself) from Australia Post, they cost $2. They'll give you some customs forms which you will also need to fill out. The address you need to send the package to is below. Make sure you seal all the edges of the box with packing tape. If the box after being packed weighs less than 2kg, Australia Post will send it for Free.

An Australian Soldier
Op Slipper
AFPO 13
Australian Defence Force
SYDNEY NSW 2890

To give an example of what can be sent, a care package could be:

1 x Lynx Shower Gel Travel Size
1 x Pack of Schick Disposable Razors
1 x NON-AEROSOL Shaving Cream
1 x Lynx Role On Deodorant
1 x Small Baby Powder (Talc)
1 x Chap Stick (SPF 30+)
3 x Bags of Allen's Lollies (NOT CHOCOLATE)
1 x Beef Instant Noodles
1 x Pack of Scotch Finger Biscuits
2 x Canned Tuna (Pull Ring Style)

But don't limit it to this let your imagination do the walking.

You may wish to also include a self addressed envelope and a letter, or include your email address as well just in case they want to contact you or have something specific they want you to get for them.

Things not to send:

Alcohol
No Clothing, Except socks
Aerosols
Cigarettes
Pork
chocolate (melts)
Magazines with naked people.

You can also send a female specific care package, including feminine deo, perfume sample sachets, girly mags. All you need to do is when addressing write ³An Australian Soldier - FEMALE².

For those of you that are animal lovers, you may wish to do the following: sending care packages to our Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD) with the following items included:

1 x box dog biscuits
1 x beef bone (not fresh)
3 x "greenies"
1x toy
1 x tennis ball
and don't forget a couple of packets of lollies for the handler.

The dogs do a magnificent job under very trying conditions and to date, four have lost their lives serving their country.

The address is:

An Australian EDD Handler
Op Slipper
AFPO 13
Australian Defence Force
SYDNEY NSW 2890

This is a fantastic way to help out our serving soldiers, and show your support. What about getting the local kids at school involved and send some special packages from them there is still time before they finish the year. What about your club or association making this a special project. Maybe you could rally the people in your work place or your church … it is important that we all show our soldiers we all care.

You wanted it, so it' back - the traditional EYO Secret Santa. It has been really successful in the past so lets do it again!

Just like previous years, the idea is that you buy someone from the board a small gift worth, say $10 -$15 -however your identity remains secret!

You need to pm me, siliegrrl with your name and address and a small gift wish list of about 2 -3 ideas of things you may like in return for xmas. This list will be sent to your kris kringle to help guide them in what to buy. They are not obliged to stick to this list but it helps build a picture of what kind of things you like.

The Rules and Timelines
•	You need to pm me, Siliegrrl with a name (doesn't have to be full real name), address and wish list by Friday November 20th.
•	I will then pm everyone with their recipient on the 21st and 22nd of November .
From that date on you can start shopping! Or at least starting to think of what to buy.
•	You must have sent off your gift before Friday December 12th.
•	Please spend between $10 - $15. It is up to your discretion if you wish to spend more, but don’t be disappointed when you receive a present in that price range.
•	If you sign up for this, you need to follow through or notify us if you can’t. If people don’t receive presents we will look into it and name and shame if necessary.

Hints and Tips
•	I am not aware of personal relationships or who gets along with who so if you have a problem with the person you are assigned to buy something for, please let us know so we can organize a swap.
•	Not everyone has the same sense of humour. Therefore, make sure you really know the person before you buy them something odd (or dirty) as not everyone will appreciate it.
•	This is a great opportunity to get to know other members. If you are given a recipient that you have never really spoken to, then it may give you the opportunity to get to know them better and probe them to find out what they really want, providing they haven't given a small wish list.
•	To receive a gift, you must send a gift and have your name registered with us beforehand!!!!
•	I will not tell you who your Secret Santa is because… it’s a SECRET! If you really want to know, post in this thread afterwards and see if your Secret Santa will fess up.
•	I am open to suggestions on how to make this idea more fun/easier/safer etc.

Let me know if you would like to participate -you can reply to this thread if you're interested.

Firstly i have to say i'm a sceptic about Global WarmingOf cause the climate is changing its been changing for the last million years
The hottest day in Australia was way back in 1939 and last month was the coolest October for 30 years.
Even Revin Rudd has gone cool on the idea he hardly mentions it any more
Very soon all world leaders will vote in Copenhagen and sign a 20 page document which will bind Australia as well as all other UN nation to a world Government Australia will have to donate .07% of our GDP which is about 7billion anually.
Now as Australia only produces 1.25% of the worlds carbon and if we eliminated it to zero it would make no difference as country's like India and China are building a new coal power station nearly every week so is Pakistan
so will our taxes go to doing very little and are you prepared to pay more for your every day living expenses which will rise up to 20% ??

Hey guys, looking for somewhere in WA (Within 2 hours of Perth CBD hopefully) that you can set up camp that isn’t a family caravan park and is more just bush and shrubs and the like. Don’t mind paying but as far as I know most of these kinds of places are free.
