notebook
I don't know about notebooks - any comments for a computer science university student. Noticed Acer and Gateway.

kruiser you have to do some research here and then base your decision on few factors 1. price 2. what you use it for. If you use it for school purposes then you don't need alot of speed I suvived my uni course doing computer science with 166 Intel pentium with 32 MB of RAM, you can even pick up a second hand one.
If you looking to use your notebook to play games then you need a faster notebook. From experience don't buy anything that you know you wont use. I bought a Geforce 4 TI4200 about 1 year ago cost me $400 and till now I havn't played a single game on it cause I didn't have time.
