hard drive of the xbox so as to avoid detection by xbox live. What do you guys think? Im sure I could get it cheaper than that....
Well a 200GB Hard Drive is worth about $160 and the chip should be worth about $60-70 installed (that chip may cost more though) so to me it seems expensive.

The idea of something being "stealth" seems a little far-fetched. Ultimately, MS can find what files are stored where and go looking for them and if they find them, ban you from Live. I'm not really into online gaming so I don't know how far MS go to check for modded XBoxes. Its probably worth a visit to XBox-Scene to find out what MS check for. Of course, MS are free to change their software so what works today may not work tomorrow.

    Hope that helps.

That price is abit extreme. I bought a doux 2 for $60 including postage (I live out the back of nowhere) to replace my cheap no name modchip. The "stealth" instal is just an option on the auto installer. The other offer I would be considering is buying the chip and going to a reputable appliance repair and getting them to put it in. You'll have to look up how to attach it (not hard) and explain it to the guy but it would save you around $100. If you need help finding the software to set up your xbox send me a pm and I'll tell you how to get it all.

Back on my problem after a full format of my HDD the problems are still there. I've just bought a 120 gig hdd off another forum and will try that if not I may be looking at a new xbox. Why did it have to die now and not in 6 months time when xbox 360 comes out.

opps didn't look that hard.. I got mine done by them but my brother knows one of the guys hence he did it for me for way less than the site quoted prices for the 200gig drive and chip.

At the end of the day I have never had a problem with my xbox whereas one of my friends got one down cheaper and has had that many problems that it's cost him at least twice as much...

He has now gone through two mod chips and they even blamed his laser on his PS2.. I don't know what the difference is between the quality of XBOX v's PS2 chips but going by mod against mod.. But I like the fact of less hassle

Given the price of Live I could understand a lot of people feeling that way. I believe there are cheaper alternatives to Live anyway.

By the way, I don't flash them. I do soft-mods which doesn't require any soldering (or even opening the box) at all

Yep, this is the Aussie link. Its $99.95 for a starter kit and then $79.95pa thereafter.

There is a system called XLink Kai but I'm not into online gaming so i don't know much about it. Perhaps some others can offer comments on this.

This is what it says it does:

This is the basis of system-link gaming, where friends would gather around in the same house and play over 2 or more consoles. With XLink Kai: Evo VII, you now have the option to test your skills out with anybody in the world. As for the technical aspects of tunnelling network packets, we won't bore you with that...

That XLink Kai sounds really good!! We all know why Microsoft didn't do it but would of been nice to have without all the hassles of modding... to an extent you would of throught they would of stayed a little more PC bases as most of the Xbox seems to be.. Great Pick up there Comphelp.

    Thanks again!!

No worries. I tell people about it when they are worried about online gaming but still want to mod their XBox.

Has anyone here actually used XLink Kai? I'd love to hear some feedback.

Given they have 200,000 users it can't be bad.

I've had some experience with it, but the internet connections weren't up to it (Optus Cable and 512/128 DSL) so it was a very laggy game. But it worked!

Basically it sets up the game like a local network multiplayer match, you use the Kai client to get to the game you want to play on and the Xbox is able to connect to it. There is a version that can run on the Linksys WRT54G, but I haven't used this.

We only used it once, so I cannot really comment much more.

Is there something wrong with the BIOS that you have? I'm a firm believer of "if it aint broke don't fix it".

If you don't know how to flash the BIOS, be very careful as some BIOSes will only work with some XBox versions and you don't want to FRAG your XBox.

If you really must flash it, I'd head over to XBox-Scene there are quite a number of good tutorials there.

Xlink kai is terrible in australia. It manipulates the xbox into thinking an online game is a lan game. So the xbox expects lan transfer speeds its basically unplayble on 1500/256. I'd hate to see it on 512

Thanks for the feedback. What a shame

Has anyone got any feedback on XB Connect?

XB connect runs much better than xlink. I got halo going on a 64k upstream connection with another person in Australia and there was no lag.

I much prefer XB connect. The only thing is you need a fast connection to play people in America etc. The games played are not as diverse as you would get on live but it is still good for the more popular games.

Plus there is the fact that you have to have your computer on. Xbox live will always be the best for online gaming, but XB connect is a good alternative.

Your aladdin should come preflashed. What you need is the software. Download a boot disc such as slayers or you can make an evox boot cd and ftp the software to your xbox.
