New XP install, but from disk image?

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop. I've outgrown the small hard drive, and
have purchased a new one; I now need to reinstall WinXP Home.

Unfortunately, the laptop didn't come with a Windows CD. Only the
much-hated "disk image" of the original factory settings, in PQI format
(DriveImage or Ghost, I have Ghost 9).

I formatted the new drive as a primary partition, made it bootable, and
restored my factory disk image to the new drive. But when I put that HD into
the laptop, it won't boot -- just a black screen with blinking cursor.

I contacted the manufacturer (Fujitsu) -- their solution was for me to
purchase a new HD from them, at a very high price, with the image already in
    place. (!!)

That can't be the only way to get a bigger hard drive here?? My purchase of
the laptop INCLUDED a license of Windows, and I have the right to reinstall
it on a new hard drive. But without an original Windows CD. So now I have
the new HD with an exact image of the WinXP Home setup that the laptop
shipped with, I just need to make it work in the PC.

    Thank you for any help!!

As I stated in the general news group there is no way you are going to do
this without a repair install. Believe me, many have tried and failed! At
this point, whether or not you already have a license for Windows XP, you
need to get a copy of Windows XP retail and do a repair.

    Sorry!

Borrow an xp cd from a friend and use it for the repair install. When it
comes time to avtivate call in to activate and tell MS any story you woild
    like except the "real" one

    Hi Bmuse,

If it is a hard disk image in a hidden partition), you must create
the same type of partition on your new hard disk then copy the image
    to the new partition.

I've had to do this a couple of times, and what I did was use Copy
Commander to go from the old disk to the new. Ghost should also work
(I have some problems with it for this process). Once you have the
image on the 'hidden' partition you should be good to go.

    Ciao . . . C.Joseph
