    Wallpaper Competition Prize/Award

I was discussing with Ed W how to get more participants into the Wallpaper Competition Thread. We were thinking more of an online prize/award rather than the ones where we have to physically send to members. Something more than taking over the requirements for the next competition. May be a Hall Of Fame or something similar, a display of the current winning wallpaper in EYO Forums' homepage? Please post your suggestions here. Thank you.

Sorry to be negative about this, but I don't like the idea of offering incentives for people to contribute to any particular thread. Interest in them waxes or wanes in them all the time. If we enhance interest in the wallpaper thread by offering virtual prizes/awards like establishing something like a hall of fame, there will be demands to do the same for many others. We'll have additional posts, not because people are interested in some particular thread, but because they have their eyes on some prize.

Some people may agree that this is a good idea, but I prefer to think that people post simply because they want to, and that this is how things ought to be.

I don't think you're being negative, I guess you have some valid points. If that's what it means then we might as well forget it altogether. Thank you Hermit!

Please don't give up so easily with your proposal. You offered your opinion, and I offered mine. After two posts the discussion need not be over.

There must be others interested in offering theirs as well.

I think for once we actually agree on something.

I'd add to this, but you pretty much covered all my thoughts.

I think the problem is that people don't feel that they can compete with the standard of work that's already there. If people knew how laughably easy my wallpapers are to make, they'd... uh... laugh. (JenniV's on the other hand... )

Anyway, I think the point is to get more people posting because they want to, and having some kind of incentive to do so was an idea that we were bandying around - not necessarily the solution.

The reason we were thinking incentive is so that people might start participating in the thread (whether by submitting a wallpaper or not), see how fun it is and keep going from there.

It would be a shame if people don't want to participate simply because the don't think they're good enough or whatever. My first wallpaper was utterly craptacular, but people encouraged me and I've done some better ones.

    My thoughts are:
    • vote/poll for the winner, open to people who submitted wallpapers (or maybe just anyone).
    • longer lead times, maybe make it monthly to give more people a chance to participate.
    • winner of the competition picks someone else (eg, a non-participant) to give requirements.
    • a discussion thread on basic techniques to help people make their own
That's all I can think of right now...

I've got quite a few responses that came straight to mind, but in light of this calm in the storm, I decided against posting them.

Ed_W - good points. You, JenniV and whoever supports that point of view, ought to keep advancing that point of view. Either way something good will come out of it.

Linton - gimme your responses via PMs. No, wait, start a thread on it. I love to display my upset regarding what you think of me in public. Admin allowing, I challenge YOU (*insert crescendo of very dramatic music here*) to a fight to the deaththththththththth, for you have impugned my honour, and such insult shall NOT remain unanswered.

*slaps face of opponent with a dead fish*

*wipes hands on trouser legs. thousands of flies immediately descend on trouser legs*

Mhhh, ok then, where shall we go? Obviously we can't stay here to fight. This is JenniV's thread we'd be sullying, so name the location and I'll name the weapon, or is it the other way around?

Anyway, I will name one or two adjudants, and so will you. Hecklers and cheerers will be invited to contribute as well, agreed?
