I'm weighing up Foxtels new $10pm IQ deal and have decided I would rather
pay cash to own a box of my own. Does anyone know if anyone makes a combo
PVR / HD STB? And would such a toy allow me to record fox?

I think LG have something, this is from an email i received at work
yesterday -
LG Electronics has launched two new High Definition (HD) Recorders, a
160GB capacity recorder (LST-5402P) and a 250GB unit (LST-5403P),
Australia's largest capacity HD digital video recorder.
Up to 40 hours of high definition (or 80 hours of SD) digital material
can be recorded on the 250GB model while the 160GB model captures up to
25 hours of HD (or 50 hours of SD) recordings.

Yes they exist, I have a Topfield 5000PVRt
No they won't record FoxTel, for that you must have an IQ.

There is nothing available that can record two channels at once as the
IQ can, however ..there are of the shelf stuff here .. not as much as
in america and harder to find ... or there are build your own type
units avialble .. theres a linux tevo project (make a tevo from a PC)
these have the advantage that you can make your own copies of the
programs you decide to copy (iIlegal .,, so i'm not advocating it) or
you can just add a video capture card into your windows box .. windows
media edition is perfect for this .. if you do this I'd advise you get
a hardware video capture device rather than a software one (Hardware
capture devices use far less CPU runtime to encode video).. there are
newgroups and forums if you want to look into this some more, so with
the aid of the planner and the auto tune function and the software that
comes with the video capture device you can record your fav shows
without being there

I think what he means is,, Only the Foxtel unit can record two channels on
foxtel programing..
Which is a very narrow view , when you consider whats available out
there for non- foxtel programming..
There are quite a few differant satellite receivers that have twin
tuners.7

Obviously you don't get out much.
http://www.topfield-australia.com.au...=TF5000PVRTMPS
And unlike the Foxtel unit, you can actually buy and own one of these.
where do you put your foxtel card genius*****

There are several products that can record two different channels at
once as the foxtel IQ can. (Topfield being the obviously one)
There are no other (integrated) products that can record two different
_Foxtel_ channels at once as the foxtel IQ can.
English is rarely "simple"...

Since I don't have one, I couldn't tell you.
You said "NOTHING can record two differnt channels at once as the foxtel IQ
can". That statement is wrong. If you'd specified FOXTEL channels, then the
answer would be different.
The correct link should be to THIS model:
http://www.topfield-australia.com.au...?SKU=TF5000PVR
Which is the satellite receiver unit.

You stick your red (Irdeto) Foxtel or Austar card into an Irdeto CAM
card and put it into one of the two CI slots behind the front panel.
If you're stuck with a newer Blue (NDS) encryption Foxtel card you'll
have to use a Dragon CAM card updated with Predator software that
supports NDS Videoguard encryption. The latest Predator firmware doesn't
yet have Foxtel's crypto ID, but future updates could have it.

eh? The Topfield TF5000PVR works quite well with any red Foxtel card or
Austar card (identical programming to Foxtel) when used with an Irdeto CAM.

Maybe you should go back and read it. Since you probably can't find your
way, here it is, broken down for you into its 3 parts:
Part 1: I'm weighing up Foxtels new $10pm IQ deal and have decided I would
rather
pay cash to own a box of my own.
Part 2: Does anyone know if anyone makes a combo PVR / HD STB?
Part 3: And would such a toy allow me to record fox?
Part 1 is a statement of intent and a desire
Part 2 is a question, the answer to which is, "Yes, it's called a PVR"
Part 3 is also a question, the answer to which is "If you are on Foxtel
'Analogue' satellite, which is actually digital, yes it can. If you already
have Foxtel Digital, no it can't."
That still makes your statement WRONG.

Is it a HD STB?

upon emailing Icetv abouth the STU and about any other solution
available to record two foxtel channels at once I recieved the reply
"We don't have a set-top box that can do that (we currently only
support the TF5000PVRt from Topfield), however this type of
functionality can be achieved by using a Media Centre PC as they can
handle capturing of analog data (which is what the Pay TV signal is)."
Having said that we don't actually offer support for the Pay TV
channels guide information.
