Thread: Holden: we dont want you to know

Holden: we dont want you to know

I am considering buying next year.

Interested in ex-police cars, as my current car is an ex-cop car, and I
reckon I got a good price on it. I also like the extras it came with to
improve its handling (Tickford suspension, ABS brakes, better tyres on an
    AU2 Falcon Forte).

Holden cop cars are advertised as having "9C1 pack".

I enquired with Holden what this was, they they said that details of
inclusions of Police packs are not available to the public.

hello - members of the public are buying these cars at govt auctions. I am
    considering one.

If I do, Holden will make money of me through servicing at their dealers and
    spare parts.

Surely the public has the right to know what they are buying.

Ford gave me this info on the Falcon.

What has Holden got to hide.

I dont want to buy a car which I dont know what it is fitted with.

Sorry Holden, you will need to do better.

(and does anyone know what 9c1 pack is, and why that has to be a Holden
    secret?)

    Paul

IIRC it is the engine performance chip ONLY for "special vehicles".

    Quick google turned this up:
    http://hh.hansenits.com/model/v/vx_commodore_00-.html

    Commodore 9C1 Pack (Police Pack)

The 9C1 pack contains some of the following: ABS, FE2 Sports Suspension,
IRS, LSD, Driver's Airbag and Passenger's Airbag (SRS), Sump protector
plate and fuel tank protector plate, Door interior light switches disabled,
map reading light/interior light, special brake pads (front and rear),
certified police speedometer, with light in instrument binnacle over speedo
(to read speedo no lights on), and can be V6, V8 or HSV V8. With the V8,
the seats have SS embroided on them. The 9C1 pack is added to an Executive,
but (in Queensland at least) can also be added on to SS with HSV V8 for
    pursuit vehicles.

I believe they also have extra wiring looms as well

Not 100% sure about the 6's, but all their vehicles could have advanced
ECU, piggy-back chips etc. Maybe HSV would know.

Why would you want to buy a car that has been thrashed every day of it's
    life?

Well, if my AU2 has been thrashed every day of its life, its not showing
    now.

I bought it at 57000km, we are now up to 120000.

I bought it because it was $5000 cheaper than a similar car in a yard. Even
if I had to spend a bit (which I havent), I would be pretty unlucky to spend
    5000.

None of them have any "performance" ecu's. All changes are strictly in the
electrics (larger alternators for extra lights etc), some have suspension
upgrades and different trip computer functionality.

    Hey Cheif!
    Welcome To JC!!
Here is a list of what all the BT1's (9C1's) came with in the VS Series!

The BT1 pack contains the following: ABS, FE2 Sports Suspension, IRS,
LSD, Driver's Airbag (SRS), 80L fuel tank, Sump protector plate and fuel
tank protector plate, Door interior light switches disabled, map reading
light/interior light, special brake pads (front and rear), certified
police speedometer, with light in instrument binnacle over speedo (to
read speedo no lights on), and can be V6, V8 or HSV V8. With the V8, the
seats have SS embroided on them. The BT1 pack is added to an Executive,
but (in Queensland at least) can also be added on to SS with HSV V8 for
    pursuit vehicles.
Judging by what you have said, id say its almost certain that u have
    brought a BT1!
The thing that sealed it for me was the fact that it had holes in the roof!
Maybe look at getting another dashboard from a wreakers from a normal VS!
Ive seen the dashboard your talking about n its ugly as hell!
Buyin an ex police car isnt nessessarily a bad thing! I know a guy in
the HWP, n he says even though the cars are driven hard, they are ALWAYS
serviced every 5k and any problems with the vehicles are rectified
immediatley, because hey, they dont have to pay for the repairs, so its
    no skin off their nose
    Hope this helps!
    </snippet>

I still need convincing they don't used advanced performance ECU
    components and software.

    Usually cop Commodes have

    Heavy duty wiring system
    FE2 suspension
    Extra guards underneath
The speedo is certified in 2km/hr graduations
Your speedalert will read exactly what speed you are doing,
There is a small light over the instruments so they could drive around with
their lights off. They also have map reading lights,

Thats all I can think of now

A mate of mine that I have known for many years is a cop and I talk to
him about the cop cars and he has told me that they are basically the
engine specs are the same as the factory (non cop) spec. Only real
difference is that they can order a VZ Executive with a V8 engine and
that is rated at 235 kw the SV8 and SS models 250 factory rated.

    Fine Dan.

What's got me intrigued is the fact that an extra 16kw (at the wheels)
can be gotten from a Subaru just by tricking up the standard factory
ECU. What could they get from an Exec V8 say, I would presume the "boys
and girls in blue" would salivate over the prospect.

Usually ex cop cars are tweaked by their new owners after they have
bought them from an auction. Although its hard enough to find a VZ Exec
v8 in an auction because not many of them have been made. Also the EPA
as well has their hand in it as well and the cop cars have to meet the
    EPA requirements as well.

Read between the lines, the idiot you spoke to has no idea what it means
and is too lazy to find out.

Police forces don't usually own their cars, they are leased and are sold
    off after 40,00klms.
They are covered by the manufacturers warranty so no engine performance
mods are allowed as they will void the warranty.
Its a myth that police cars have modified engines.
AFAIK the only Vic Police car engines that got modified were ones that
needed rebuilding after a major failure and that only happened when Vic
Police had their own workshops in Collingwood, the Collingwood Police
workshop where a mate did his apprenticeship have been closed for many
    years.
