Thread: Medion Divx Portable multimedia player (ALDI)

  1. #21
i saw some for sale at the Aldi Chapel street store on sunday.... for $249

i love my unit.. it's awesome... plays all the divx's perfectly fine...

also fyi for the avi/mpg files that do not play on the unit .. use the program "Divx Converter" and convert them to divx and they play fine!

best unit for the price.. awesome

would appreciate if someone has a firmware upgrade.. i talked to the medio helpdesk couple weeks back and they were going to send me the upgrade file... but no one has sent anything yet...

    yes!

my friend bought the last unit a couple of weeks ago.... that's why they had run out when you went to buy one...

they must have brought more stock in.. i was there on saturday and they had a unit in the display..so more stock must have arrived..

    Hi All

Just wondering if you can directly record from the tv with this device.

  4. #24
yes.. you can record from *any* AVI input device and playback on the divx player..

the record resolution is 320x300 (something like that) .. plays perfectly on the divx screeen but bit small to play back on TV..

Usually there is a 'line in' input and some cables to connect your TV/VCR etc output, there should be a menu setting for recording from the line in, I don't have one of these just explaining how it is commonly done.

    Recording

Has anybody actually used this device to record off the tv? I tried connecting the cords last night to the tv but kept getting NO AV SIGNAL! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks

Im thinking of buying one of these things...they go on sale in my area (wollongong) this thursday. Any problems with it i should know of? Any info would be great. Also, i assume you can't use xvid on this thing?

Oh and with the resolutions....lets say i have a divx file with the resolution of 608 x 336...will the player automatically resize or will the file won't play...or does this have no affect at all lol Or am i simply finding excuses not to part with my $249 lol

    Thanks in Advance
    Aleksandar

Thanks for the info. What format does it record in? i heard someone mention ASF.

But thats pretty much irrevelant now, because i have decided to part with my $249 and to line up at aldi just before uni lol For something that peforms thsoe functions and at such a price....

Any firmware upgrades for it? (it is my understanding that these are very hard to find for products from Aldi)

    Cheers
    Aleksandar

Yes. Generally the red cord is for right side audio. Some older TV's dont have three sockets for AV, they have two (just audio and video). Yellow is for Video, Red (right side audio) and White (left side audio) So if you have a red output..just plug the red cord in and should record fine.

    Thanks for the info

According to some google research....this thing is the exact same as a MSI Megaview 588 (edit: i just notices someone else also pointed this out)...Just badged under Medion.

And if i am correct then it will play Xvid video's

    Check this link...

    http://www.msicomputer.com.au/html/n..._oz/121205.htm

Hopefully i am right....Please correct me if im wrong.

But i guess this is irrevelant considering i'll be buying one tomorrow morning.

I would be surprised if it played divx and not xvid.
But I guess you will be able to tell us all tomorrow.

Not what I was looking for

I picked one of these things up at Aldi on thursday, and I'd have to say I'm a little diappointed... But then, you get what you pay for.

I bought this primarily as a music player for personal (headphones) use and to play through the input of my car stereo. Having listened to it in both of these ways, I am not happy. The EQ setting for Rock makes everything scratchy and distorted, like a clock radio. Other settings make it sound muffled, and varying degrees of distortion. The same MP3 files sound great through the same earphones on my computer.

I guess the audio amplifier is cheap in order to get the costs down.

I was also a bit annoyed about the bulid quality: The thin, fragile plastic casing doesn't feel too good. the first time I opened the battery enclosure I thought it was going to crack. It felt like a cheap toy out of an easter show bag.

I guess if you don't own a laptop, and you want to travel and take your videos and music with you, plus download your photos straight from your camera, then this is a great unit for the price. If you're after something a bit more durable and something for music playback, then I'd say save your pennies and grab an iPod.

I bought the unit based on feedback from this forum, so I thought I better register and post a reply from my point of view.

sometimes (not very often) xvids seem to bleed on the screen (not sure if this is the right term)
While the xvid is playing certain foreground shapes on screen seem to remain
this leaves a trail of that shape over the screen.
    for example.
if a person walks from left to right. the person inprint is left behind (visible) on every frame, over the top of the background. This is usually fixed up if the background changes to a different scene.

There is no AC3 decoder, so if your xvid does not use mp3 audio you will here nothing.

These are the exact symptoms you get with any player that doesn't support custom quantizer matrices. Check the file with MPEG4Modifier to confirm.
